Payne Heat Pump Reviews | Consumer RatingsPayne Heat Pump Reviews | Consumer Ratings. Payne offers heat pumps from 14 SEER up to 17 SEER. HSPF ratings from 8.2 up to 9.5. HSPF or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor is the way the HVAC industry measures efficiency for heat pumps. While Payne does not offer the highest rating in heat pumps they still deliver a quality product. A quality product that truly depends on the contractor installation. And that goes for any brand of heat pump or HVAC equipment you purchase. Payne offers these heat pumps in the 2 to 5 ton range for residential and light commercial applications.

Payne is owned by the same umbrella company that owns Carrier. This means if you purchase a Payne heat pump you will like have a Carrier dealer install the system for you. This is good for you as Carrier provides robust training courses for their dealers and the dealers technicians. Despite that, it is always a good thing for you to thoroughly check out the contractor before signing a contract. Select features of various Payne heat pump models include:

  • Engineered for quiet performance. Decibel levels vary for different models. See spec. sheet for details.
  • Tight wire grille protects coils from damage
  • Made with corrosion resistance materials for durability
  • High-efficiency two-stage scroll compressor in select Payne heat pump units
  • High- and low-pressure switches for the refrigeration system. This protects the system in the event of problems including catastrophic loss of charge or lack of maintenance.
  • R-410A refrigerant used for Payne Heat Pump units
  • Select units EnergyStar qualified.
  • 10-Year Parts Limited Warranty*. See manufacturers website or a Payne dealer for more details and terms and conditions about warranties.

Always remember to register the warranty within the time limit after installation is complete. Failing to do so may void any manufacturer warranty. I also recommend if they offer a parts and labor extended warranty that you purchase it at the time of the installation. Some manufacturers offer this warranty and some do not. This is especially true if you are purchasing the top-tier equipment as these systems are typically complex and require extra troubleshooting skills and the parts are usually more costly.
