Coming from Hallowell International there is finally an air to air heat pump engineered and designed to work efficiently in the Northern climes where the temperature falls to near or below zero for the winter months. Technically referred to as Boosted Air Source Heat Pumps or as Hallowell International likes to put it the Acadia (Trademarked) heat pump system operates in colder climates under temperatures of 16 degrees Fahrenheit and up before using backup electric heating.
The Acadia heat pump makes use of a second compressor inside the Acadia heat pump condenser that kicks in when a preset temperature is reached in the ambient air. Acadia claims efficiency ratings that match geothermal systems sans the added installation costs of geothermal heat pump systems. Some of the benefits of the Acadia heat pump system are:
- The Acadia Heat Pump offers cooling and heating as does all heat pumps
- The Acadia Heat Pump works at lower ambient temperatures unlike the typical air source heat pumps
- The Acadia Heat Pump cost less to install than a geothermal heat pump system and as the manufacturer claims the Acadia has similar efficiency levels as geothermal heat pumps
