Tempstar Heat Pump Reviews - Consumer Ratings - Tempstar offers heat pump models in energy efficiency ranges from 13 SEER 7.7 HSPF to 19 SEER 11 HSPF. Tempstar offers a variety of warranties depending on the Tempstar heat pump product you select and typically the higher efficiency ranges get the better warranties with a Tempstar heat pump.
Efficiency rating also depends on the capacity or tonnage of the unit purchased for Tempstar heat pumps. To get the best energy efficiency, a matched system should be purchased. Some of Tempstar’s heat pumps are Energy Star rated. Some features of selected Tempstar heat pumps are:

Air Source Heat Pump Tips | Dual Fuel Heating
A dual fuel heat pump is a heat pump with a gas furnace for backup heating rather than electric heat strips.
Air source heat pumps have a backup heating source. In most installations, the backup heating source is electric heat strips. Electric heat strips are very cheap to install in most cases. However, while electricity is generally regarded as 100% efficient, producing it is more costly than other heating methods. For a more efficient heat pump, consider a dual fuel heat pump, or a heat pump with a gas furnace for the backup heat source. It will be more costly to install, but your monthly bills will be reduced.

Additional Information | Tempstar Heat Pump Reviews
High Performance HVAC always recommends to consumers purchasing new HVAC heating and cooling system, including heat pump units and air conditioners, to make sure you choose a good local HVAC contractor for the installation of the new heating and cooling system. Installation is very important for heat pump units and air conditioners. Poor installation can lead to premature failure and poor performance of a heat pump.
Tempstar offers a 10 year “No Hassle” replacement limited warranty that guarantees if the coil or the compressor fails in the first ten years Tempstar will replace the heat pump unit or air conditioning system. When you see a limited warranty make sure you read the fine print because many times you will get the replacement for free but you will have to pay for labor to install the new heat pump condenser.
Nearly all limited warranties do not include the cost of labor. Always check to see if an extended part and labor warranty is available from the manufacturer especially when purchasing the top-of-the-line heating and cooling models.
For more on the Tempstar warranty for all their heat pump and air conditioning models and for the latest models and efficiency, ratings see the Tempstar website. Tempstar owns the trademark names for several of its heating and cooling equipment features. All rights reserved for those names. Specifically, Tempstar has those trademarks for components and processes in their air conditioning and heat pump systems.
There is not much history about Tempstar except the fact they are owned by United Technologies.
Tempstar Heat Pump Reviews - Consumer Ratings
The following video demonstrates a pair of Tempstar heat pumps that look pretty good. One thing of note: These heat pumps look a little close to the house. The standard for distance is a minimum of 18 inches. I prefer a little more space but the space allows for proper air flow and access for service and repair. Most code inspectors would have caught this on an inspection for a final on the permit. It is why we always say, “contractor over any brand” when it comes to heat pumps or any other type of HVAC equipment heating and cooling installation.
I live in south Florida and installed a Tempstar 3.5 ton unit in my new house in 1999. Other than thermostat problem in 2002, have not even had the unit serviced (replace sir filters twice a year) since new. I know there is some luck involved, but that is my true experience. I am currently searching for a future replacement and now I am totally lost. Just because I had luck with this unit does not mean I will have similar luck in the future. Seems like quality for all AC’s have declined. Doing research now.
I HAVE AN INSTALLATION OF THE TEMPSTART SYSTEM TODAY, AFTER READING THE ABOVE COMMENTS I GUESS I MADE A BAD CHOICE. JUST MY DAM LUCK.
I think, in some cases, the equipment is not the problem. All equipment has failures from time to time but if the installation was done properly and regular maintenance is performed you are less likely to have problems with the equipment than if it was installed improperly (and many systems are because people typically go for the lowest bid and not always the most competent installer) or if the system is neglected by not having regular maintenance. Always check out the contractor to make sure they are competent in what they have done in the past. Proper installation is key to having a good, properly functioning and efficient system installed and working for years with little or no problems.
Not so. I have had mine Tempstar for 5 years, never a problem with it always worked well. It is -5 degrees outside now and it is still working on heat pump no auxiliary heat yet.

Not much good I can say about this brand or Heat Pump. Any energy savings has been far surpassed by repairs. Same with the AC. Stay away from this brand.

I replaced a heat pump in 2010 that has been in my house for 21 years with no service repairs as it was just getting noisy. I took the advice of a local dealer and purchased a temp star. That was the LARGEST mistake I ever made. It is now not working again. The compressor has gone out for the second time. Once in 2012 and now in 2015 at the cost of $1100. Each time. STAY AWAY FROM TEMPSTAR!!!!!!!! I talk to them and was told there was nothing they could do for me.
