Daikin offers air conditioners for residential applications in the capacity range from 2 to 5 tons. They have been a proven leader in refrigeration and increasing efficiency with air conditioners and heat pumps. They were the innovators behind VRV or VRF technology that is being used in more and more air conditioners heat pumps. VRV or VRF stands for Variable Refrigerant Volume or Variable Refrigerant Flow respectively. VRV and VRF are pretty much one and the same with the only difference being the name. A VRV or VRF system will modulate the compressor based on demand. Modulating the system has been proven to save energy and the life of the equipment.

Daikin’s warranty seems to be slightly better than other manufacturers with only a few other manufacturers matching the 12-year warranty. Always remember to register the warranty within the deadline period after installation is complete. Otherwise, the manufacturer has no obligation to honor the warranty. Some people have learned this the hard way and then cussed out the manufacturer. I know, I get emails from people about this and some reviews indicate this problem. In that case, can’t really blame the manufacturer.

Prices and ROI | Daikin Air Conditioner Reviews
Furthermore, remember the models compared above represent one top tier model, one mid-range model, and one economy model. The dollar amount for the units is in line with the ranges in the models. The higher the SEER range you buy the more it will cost you. Prices vary based on regions and other factors including contractor pricing so it’s nearly impossible to give prices for a newly installed air conditioner with a matching heating system.
What’s your opinion? Make a review today. If you own a Daikin and are happy with it we would love to hear from you. It helps others make buying decisions.
Additionally, speaking of warranties. Always check to see if the manufacturer has an extended part and labor warranty. If you are buying mid-grade to top-tier equipment I recommend you purchase that warranty (if available). Finally, no matter the brand or the type of equipment you purchase, the best you can get is only as good as the installing contractor. Make sure you get a qualified and competent contractor to install the system.
Air Conditioner Pricing, Efficiency, and Return On Investment Factors
Pricing Versus Efficiency Return On Investment | ||
---|---|---|
Efficiency | Pricing Range for Initial Purchase and Subsequent Repairs outside of Warranty | ROI (Return On Investment) |
19 SEER Plus | $$$$$ | 5 to 7 years depending on efficiency* |
15 to 18 SEER | $$$ | 7 to 10 years depending on efficiency* |
13 to 14 SEER | $ | Over 10 years* |
*Many factors depend on ROI such as house insulation, personal usage preferences, duct work integrity, and other basic efficiency factors. SEER level efficiency is very important to ROI. The higher the SEER, the quicker the return. |
Warranties
Daikin does have a warranty for their air conditioners that are above average. Most HVAC manufacturers offer a 10-year limited parts warranty. However, Daikin’s warranty runs for 12 years. Remember, the warranty only covers parts and not labor. Always ask for a labor warranty (if available). A labor warranty will cost you extra but for the higher-end, high-efficiency air conditioners, it’s worth it. These premium models are more complex and require a skilled technician to troubleshoot if problems arise. Additionally, make sure to read the fine print and register the warranty within the manufacturer’s time frame.
About Daikin
Daikin began in 1924 manufacturing radiator tubes for aircraft. In 1938 they branched out and got into refrigeration providing refrigeration units for the Japanese Navy. In the 50’s Daikin introduced their first air conditioners. As they grew so did Daikin’s innovation for various comfort and industrial cooling systems. In 2012, Daikin purchased Goodman Manufacturing out of Houston, Texas.
Finally, a few words about the video. It appears to be too close to the house. Most manufacturers require a minimum of 18 inches of space installed from the house. Of course, that would be difficult because of the property line. The property line is another issue. In most municipalities, if you install any type of unit within 10 feet of the property line you have to get prior approval from the AHJ or code authorities. Don’t know if the contractor did that or got approval from the manufacturer to install the unit within the 18-inch minimum. I don’t know the situation or conditions but I would have recommended to the homeowner to install the unit in another location.

Bought new 1 TN split AC invertor model, 2 days back but did not work post installation. Service engr. Said Gas is not there in compressor.
We bought a Daiken unit for our home in Jupiter Florida in june 2018 on the recommendation of the local AC company who was subsequently purchased by FPL. It’s good that it has a 12 year warranty because we will need it. The entire coil system is at this moment being replaced. I understand that FPL techs won’t sell Daikins anymore since our problem ( coils freezing) is happening to others all the time. It took almost three weeks to get the right part(the first one that came after 8 days was the wrong part) The techs all recommend Carrier. Our next unit will not be a Daikin that’s for sure.
I have a Daikin A/C installed in my office during winter in the Engineering Fabrication firm where I work. It was to replace an older model that had stopped working and could not be fixed as the parts are no longer available. The new A/C performance on heating was lack lustre. I had it set to auto. It was enough to take the chill off the air. Then the season changed. Not a breath of cool air out of this A/C. Then it stopped working all together. Then installer attended. Pronounced the condenser as dead. Parts for the unit are not available in Australia. Daikin will not replace the unit. It must be repaired. There is no estimate of when the parts will arrive. In fact, no idea at all. Now it is 40°C and I am roasting. They do not live up to the hype (most probably self generated). Needless to say, I will never buy Daikin ever again. Neither should you.
I don’t feel that Daiken cools my home. I have to leave it on 69 degrees in the Florida summer weather.
I had a Daikin installed on the recommendation of Center Point Energy in Minnesota. That was on July 12, after waiting for the install for 3 weeks during an extremely hot period. On July 23rd, it would run for about 10 seconds, stop, run again for 10 seconds, stop, on and on. I waited another week for a repairman. He said that either the installer didn’t put in enough refrigerant or there is a leak. He added 3 lbs of refrigerant, that was on Monday. By Tuesday the house was getting hotter. Whenever I set the thermostat at 73 it would run for hours while the temp increased than it would change my setting to whatever the temp in the house was and shut off. I’m again waiting for a repairman.
I’ve had a Daikin for three years. As per warranty, I have it checked once a year. So far, so good. It runs quietly (it’s on the roof above my bedroom) and keeps my home very comfortable…and that’s saying something in Arizona heat! The company provides a great warranty, and purchase was 18 months same as cash!
thank God for your reviews i am looking for a AC system and wont be DAIKIN for sure
I got caught by a salesman back in 2015, when my old Carrier central A/C failed.
Since then I have issue with A/C at least 4 times a year.
Have the internal fan motor replaced, unfortunately the service is not good, the motor is too noise and to don’t change it again the Michael&Son just say that’s normal.
Have the outside unit PC board replace, capacitor replaced, each replacement happened in different period and never replaced at same day, neither same week.
Right now the internal unit PC board needs to be replaced, they came here 3 times to identify it might be the PC board, and two weeks no PC board for replace.
Wish other A/C manufacture create any kind of program to throw this *&#& and trade for new A/C even refurbished. Just want to get rid of this Daikin.
I have recently purchased three Daikin mini units for my home. The units usually works fine that is until my power is out because electrical problems beyond my control. The units cannot be reset until I contact purchaser (O’keefe A/C in NOLA) to reset the units. What happens when my units are no longer under warranty?
I wish I would have read some of these reviews before I purchased this unit 3 years this month. Four service calls in 3 years… that s bad for a new unit.. Daikin is a piece of CRAP..
I HAVE A 12 YEAR WARRANTY SO I WILL CALL THEM EVERYTIME this Crappy unit fails to perform properly. Unit runs loud … Every winter Crap freeze up. Just made a service call today.
Terrible quality units. Do not buy. My brand new central air did not work the first time i turned it on and has had problems ever since. 6 service calls for different parts failures in the first year lead to a district rep from Diakin visiting my home. He told me if if it failed again one more time in the next year i would get a full replacement. Fast forward one year and 3 more failures later…. no replacement. The rep who came out “changed positions” within the company and they will not honor his agreement with me and my hvac contractor. The “new” district rep has to come out and asses the problem, he has been notably absent for six months. Sound like a poorly hidden scam to never honor a Diakin representatives commitment. Save the headache dont purchase Diakin.
Owned a Diakin 16 seer 3 ton since 4/ 2017. Bought the heater at the same time.
No complaints at all. Knowledgeable installers is the key. One problem was a failed contactor. A bug had crawled up in between the contacts. I saw it when it was removed and inspected. Also, the unit was short cycling. I asked for a hard start kit installation. An inexpensive addition to eliminate the annoying short cycling and extends compressor life. The technician did not notice the short cycling I had to point it out. He quickly added the hard start capacitor. No other issues. The unit is quiet and strong. The heater is very good too.
I put surge protectors on the indoor heater/ blower and outdoor condenser/ compressor. This protects the electronic control boards and compressor.
Maintenance, proper installation, and observant informed owner will go a long way to stop the failures when you need the unit the most. I am happy with my unit and the company I dealt with.
Dakin Product does not work. 2 years and many factory certified service calls and still will not function correctly. Has not worked since day one.
I posted a review of this product that I purchased and my review was removed and I want to know Why,
Spam filter maybe. Other reasons include fallacious wording. Repetitive submissions also are flagged and deleted.
The DZ16TC0361CA is a pure piece of cheap Chinese Junk! I’ve had two units. First one lasted 10 months before compressor quit. Second one is 4 months in service and already 2 service calls. The unit in attic is also a POS. 4 service calls and faulty part after part. Just keeps breaking. Not reliable or durable. Efficiency is in question as well, ZERO reduction in electrical consumption! We are not maxing out the temperature in the house either. 72 in cool mode and 70 in heat mode. So buyers beware! Look elsewhere and save yourself the aggravation and $$ for labor on service calls! You’ll need that 12 year warranty! I’m switching over to Trane!
All Daikin products are made in Texas since 2012, just FYI, when you are calling it a “piece of junk from China,” it doesn’t sound like your product review made any sense.
Why does it take so long to drop the temp takes seven hours to drop three degrees
Could be low on charge or something else. If its a new system it could be undersized. An air conditioner removes heat from your house. So minimize, as much as possible, heat coming into the house and it will need to remove less heat.
We purchased a New Daikin FIT 16 Seer Gas Furnace to replace my 29 year old unit. My air handler is located in my house by the living room and the old unit there was so loud and could not keep up with the Florida Heat. Once we got the new unit installed the sound pollution in my home substantially reduced, as well as my outside unit. The old unit was so loud and very annoying whenever anyone was vising my home due to the fact that the condenser was located right outside my porch. The new condenser is so quiet I barely know it running. Our power bills since we had the new unit installed have gone down dramatically. I love the Daikin One thermostat too, it has a app so you are able to adjust the thermostat remotely as well as it will connect to my Alexa in the house. The value that the Daikin FIT system added to our home is amazing and the price for the system was a great value. Plus the extended warranty that Daikin offers gives me peace of mind. The Daikin FIT system has been the best purchase for our new home. Our house is cooling perfectly now; there are no loud noises/sounds & no hot zones in the home. The right installation crew does matter and Brevard Cooling and Heating has the best crew to install the Daikin FIT system perfectly so they run like they are supposed to run.
My $12600 daikan HVAC system is a big disappointment. Combined heat cool feature either too hot or too cold. I have to adjust manually. Do not recommended.
Wish my a/c would get to cold
I recently just replaced my 2008 Trane unit with a Daikin Fit inverter VRV 5 ton system. The company who recommend this system explained all the benefits as to why installing a inverter FIT system would help lower with my electric bill, perform better dehumidification inside and operate much quieter then my previous system. So far i have been very pleased with my purchase. We zoned my house with 2 individual zones. The FIT system is able to operate at 2 tons of cooling capacity for the smaller zone when needed and operate at 5 tons of capacity when both zones need cooling. I anticipate a large electric bill saving over the course of the systems life. Its great technology that defiantly has multiple upsides as apposed to the single stage units. The new Fit condenser outside is so quite i have to physically walk up to it and look at it to see if its running. I would recommend this unit.
This last complaint from a customer who said Daikin needed an annual inspection was the last straw for me. I will never buy or advise anyone to ever buy a Daikin. And the service women I had to deal with and their refusing to talk to anyone but a certified installer indicate the mindset of an extremely poor and customer unfriendly company. Period.
We installed a new Daikin about three months ago. While I won’t mention the installer because they won’t honor our service agreement if I do, we had A LOT of issues with the installation and after the installation. They’ve responded to all of the issues we called about and have always maintained that it is the equipment and not them. That may be so, but it means very little to me. If my AC doesn’t work I don’t really care why. I’m still stuck in a hot house.
But while they’ve been honoring their service agreement and so on we just got notified that the manufacturer refuses to honor the warranty if we don’t have seasonal inspections. They want to charge us almost $100 for each inspection (almost $200/yr).
What about our service agreement? This apparently isn’t covered. This feels like a scam. Definitely not happy with my purchase.
Bought a Daikin Fit variable AC in Flower Mound TX. Worst purchase ever made. $17K and we are on our 3rd service call in 3 months. Only works for about 3 weeks at a time. This time they are replacing a coil.
DO NOT BUY.
