Coleman Air Conditioner Reviews - Consumer Ratings
Finally, Coleman makes HVAC systems for residential that range in size from 2 to 5 tons. 3 separate models ranging in various sizes and efficiency ranges give you the option of paying for bells and whistles or not paying for the extras. Efficiency ranges up to 21 SEER for Coleman’s top premium model.
The 21 SEER model has a sound rating as low as 53 dBA which is considered ultra-quiet compared to other models. It has a lifetime compressor warranty* with a 10-year limited parts warranty. The premium models are also Energy Star rated which means you can receive discounts and rebates from utilities and government programs.
Coleman Mid-Tier Models
Coleman offers mid-tier models that range from 15 SEER to over 17 SEER. Since they are constantly changing warranties and other data always check with their dealer or website for further details.
Air Conditioner Pricing, Efficiency, and Return On Investment Factors
Pricing Versus Efficiency Return On Investment | ||
---|---|---|
Efficiency | Pricing Range for Initial Purchase and Subsequent Repairs outside of Warranty | ROI (Return On Investment) |
19 SEER Plus | $$$$$ | 5 to 7 years depending on efficiency* |
15 to 18 SEER | $$$ | 7 to 10 years depending on efficiency* |
13 to 14 SEER | $ | Over 10 years* |
*Many factors depend on ROI such as house insulation, personal usage preferences, duct work integrity, and other basic efficiency factors. SEER level efficiency is very important to ROI. The higher the SEER, the quicker the return. |
Proper Installation for Proper Efficiency
In my opinion, mid-tier models have efficiency ranges from 15 SEER to 17 SEER. If you want to get this rating you need to replace the entire system and have the final installation tested to ensure proper and efficient operation. This includes checking the ductwork for ductwork integrity and proper sizing. Many new and retrofit installations fail in this regard. A good contractor will educate the homeowner in this regard.
For example, a homeowner may replace only the condenser because the old condenser had a bad compressor. This is a mismatch because you need the proper air handler paired with the outside condenser to get the full potential of efficiency from the new system. You also need to make sure the ductwork has integrity and is properly sized. What good is it to have a higher SEER air conditioner when the ductwork is leaking air? Or if it is not sized properly? You will never get the proper efficiency from a mismatched system.
Coleman History
WC Coleman began selling his handmade lanterns in Kingfisher, OK back in 1900. He needed to make money to pay for his college. A few years passed and his lanterns became very popular and his business prospered. In the depression years, he began producing floor furnaces and oil space heaters. Coleman produced portable stoves which became very popular and went to war with the GIs in WW2. In 1958 Coleman got into the heating and air conditioning business. In 1990 Coleman was purchased by Johnson Controls Unitary Division which is the same company that owns York.

Don’t do it it’s one of the worst units had ours 4 years multiple parts already replaced on new unit and 10 year warranty. No wonder there are crap. Wish I could just get refund take this 10000 thing back. I’ll do window units. Thing suck. Ever session go from ac to heat or other way something tares up
DON”T DO IT!!!! I’ve spent $15,000 on my Coleman I originally purchased in July of 2013 they’ve done nothing but give me the run around about for the last 6 years. Here I sit, $15,000 sunk into this system with a currently broken AC in TEXAS with no relief. It’s awful. Been talking to one of their reps for over a year now with a broken system.
The software is horrible. Works for a while then sends message “it’s off line etc”. I would not recommend this system!
Did Colemen help with the expense of the cost to replace your AC?
I’m looking to replace our AC and Furnace with Colemen
AC: Coleman LX Series CC7 condenser located on roof.
Furnace LX Series TM9E
Can anyone tell me how quiet is the AC? Also the average money to install the unit, with permit, leak check?
Very bad thermopompe coleman product. I have problems for 7 years with non stop problems eventhough many parts have been changed and still is broken. Most of my winters spent on my heat elements coz my my machine is defective.
They might: try 1-800-835-3278. they have a consumer relations department and are very fair.
I have installed a Coleman A/C evaporator coil in my home. It was manufactured in 2009, and was installed in 2011. The A/C company offers a lifetime parts (no labor) warranty for the unit. We found that after less than 5 years, massive rust and corrosion exists on the outside of the unit. We also have found a small leak in one of the top coil copper tubes, causing the refrigerant to leak out. A/C company offered to replace the unit under warranty, BUT REQUIRES $2,200 LABOR TO INSTALL THE REPLACEMENT! I feel that this labor charge to replace is excessive (also confirmed by another A/C company), especially since the evaporator coil has deteriorated so much in less than 5 years installed. Would Coleman offer to reimburse the installing A/C company for the labor to install a replacement evaporator coil? I don’t think so!
We are considering a Coleman unit now. Did Coleman replace your labor costs to install the replacement evaporator coil?
