American Standard Air Handlers
American Standard Air Conditioner Reviews - Air Handling Units
American Standard manufactures several different combinations of air handlers to fit most configurations for residential and light commercial HVAC use. Combinations include up flow, downflow, horizontal flow, and a lowboy for tight spaces and can be matched with most heat pump and air conditioner condensers. American Standard also manufacturers an air handler that has variable speed capability for high-efficiency applications.
American Standards line of air handlers can be sized from 2 to 5 tons for residential to light commercial applications. When you see an HVAC manufacturer mention humidity control for an air handler it likely means for the cooling mode only and to make that statement the air handler needs to have a variable speed ECM blower motor and have the proper control set up to control humidity.
To control humidity in the winter when the unit is likely operating in the heating mode you need a humidifier to add moisture to the air. Maintaining proper humidity levels is not only good for your home but also for your health.

American Standard Condensing Units - Professional Opinion
American Standard makes good HVAC equipment so as long as it is installed properly by a competent HVAC contractor. If so, you shouldn’t have too much to worry about. It is also good to have regular maintenance performed on any type of HVAC equipment as things tend to wear out over time. American Standard and Trane share the same type of engineering that goes into their equipment.
Many proprietary parts are interchangeable so if a problem occurs and the American Standard dealer does not have the part then it is possible for them to get the part from a Trane dealer. That really doesn’t matter so much these days because of express shipping where you can get a part the next day. Except when the temperatures are extreme some people, for health reasons, need the equipment repaired the same day.

Questions for the Salesman:
- Is multi-staged cooling modulating? How many stages? Please explain?
- Does American Standard offer extended parts and labor warranty? If you are purchasing a top of line model then I would want this………….notice I said parts and LABOR. These top-of-the-line units have bells and whistles and can be challenging to troubleshoot even for the best technicians.

Warranties
American Standard offers industry-standard warranties with the option to purchase extended parts and labor warranties with a new purchase of a new system. Always read the warranties so you understand exactly what you are getting. Most people do not read the warranty and are surprised when something happens. Industry-standard warranties typically only cover parts and NOT labor.
When a system within the warranty breaks down the homeowner is surprised when they have to pay a bill for labor. We highly recommend the parts and labor warranty especially for those purchasing the higher SEER rated equipment. These systems are more complex than the builder’s grade models. They also typically require a highly skilled technician to troubleshoot and repair.

you are not American change your name.
American Standard Platinum Series is a piece of $hit with it’s variable speed which means it will run for 18 to 19 hours in Texas if you keep it at 75F. Your electric bill will suffer if you keep it at 78F it will run 15 to 16 hours I would not recommend this for anyone unless you live up North were it doesn’t get Hotttt. at 78F it runs 3-4 hours at the low speed which is the energy efficient and the rest at full power so 11-12 hours and at 75F it run 4-5 hours energy efficient and the 13-14 hours at full power. Just recently put solar on my house and had free nights so left it at 78-80 during day and at night had it at 74F and bill wasn’t that much now that we have solar I noticed that the a/c uses a lot of power all day and night I would stay away from this unit if your are down south otherwise you will pay for it both ways for install and electricity it uses.
Do not buy any American Standard! Went out in May, not even 3 years old. Still not fixed because this never happens! Yeah right. Besides that, their people are poorly trained.
Stay away from American Standard they are not reliable. 5 yrs in blower motor died. 6 yrs now and coil had a leak and needs to be replaced costing me $3000 and on top of that its been 7 weeks waiting on a replacement. STILL NOT FIXED. NOTHING BUT EXCUSES
Bought 2- 5 ton units for $17000. After 3 seasons compressor went out of one unit. Compressor was under warranty, but you pay dearly to have installed. Units are not that great for the price.
I just read a report that American Standard is the most reliable system one can buy. In 5 years I’ve had two problems with my American Standard system. Can’t say that’s a bad thing. My car is the same age and its been in the shop 5 times.

Recommend you do not buy American Standard
After only 14 months, my expensive new American Standard air-conditioner has blown out and so far, all they’re doing is taking photos and deciding what to do because, “This never happens.” Yeah, right.
.
Think carefully before you buy this brand because it doesn’t appear to be quality equipment and customer service isn’t too responsive.
.
I’m extremely unhappy and no one seems to care at all. It’s very hot and I paid these people good money and a lot of money for this NOT to happen!

Cannot Recommend American Standard Air Conditioner
This may have been a premier product at one time, but the new system has been nothing but trouble since the first year it was installed. Leaks, poor fittings, compressor constantly cuts out and needs a service call. In the 3 years I’ve had it, they’ve had to replace virtually everything…fan, coil, etc. When it works, it works great, but if I had not purchased the Extended Warranty for this American Standard AC unit, it would be completely unaffordable to maintain.
