Coleman History

WC Coleman began selling his hand made lanterns in Kingfisher, OK back in 1900. He needed to make money to pay for his college. A few years passed and his lanterns became very popular and his business prospered. In the depression years he began producing floor furnaces and oil space heaters. Coleman produced portable stoves which became very popular and went to war with the GI’s in WW2. In 1958 Coleman got into the heating and air conditioning business. In 1990 Coleman was purchased by Johnson Controls Unitary Division which is the same company that owns York.
