Air Handler Water Coil Freeze Stat - The HVAC Air Handler Freeze Stat is a low-temperature limit control and it is used mainly in commercial systems in the ductwork on economizers or in air handlers just before any coil especially water coils. It is a safety and protection control to prevent extremely cold air from reaching the hot water or chilled water coils inside the air handler where the air enters from the economizer.
Under ideal control setup if the freeze stat trips the economizer dampers close and the blower fan stops. This prevents coils from freezing. A frozen coil can bust open and will need to be replaced if it freezes. This is the purpose of the freeze stat in HVAC air handler applications which utilize economizers for free cooling and other purposes.

Water Tower Pumps and Controls | Pumping Systems - Water towers maintain a ready limited supply of water for communities in the event the water main goes down. Many towers are used for emergency situations for the fire department to have water for fighting fires and for water fire suppression systems to have a supply of water for the emergency if it should arise. Large Condenser Pump for a Chilled Water System - This large HVAC condenser pump serves a new chiller located in a data center. This pump pumps condenser water through the condenser chiller barrel and to cooling to reject the heat absorbed in the chillers evaporator barrel. The pump works to move the water from the chiller to the cooling and then back through the chiller again. The water is diluted with a glycol solution to prevent freezing in the wintertime when the chiller needs to run at low ambient temperatures. (more…)

Hydronic Pump Cavitation - Pump cavitation can cause severe problems to a pump if not addressed and corrected. To understand the cause of cavitation you need to understand the pressure-temperature relationship of the liquid in the loop. Whether it is water or water/glycol mix. As the water passes through the pump it changes the pressure from the suction side to the discharge side of the pump.
If the water’s static pressure drops too much vapor is created causing tiny bubbles in the water or fluid in the loop passing through the pump. These bubbles are unstable and collapse causing severe turbulence inside the bearing assembly and can damage the impeller. (more…)

Honeywell Oil Burner Ignition Control | HVAC Heating - This Honeywell oil burner ignition control controls the oil burner sequence of operation. On a call for heat from the thermostat, the oil burner ignition control starts the burner blower. this mechanically interlinked with the oil pump.
The blower blows air into the combustion chamber and the oil pump pumps oil to the burner’s nozzle. The step-up transformer is energized and applies a very high voltage spark to the burner’s ignitor. When the flame is detected it is immediately detected by a cad cell eye which recognizes the light produced by the flame inside the combustion chamber. (more…)
