Heil Gas Furnace Reviews - Heil has a wide range of gas furnaces ranging from 80% AFUE to 98% AFUE with the top of the line Heil being a modulating gas furnace. Their gas furnaces can be matched with a heat pump condensing unit for a dual fuel heat pump system that some manufacturers call a Hybrid heat pump system.
Heil Gas Furnace Reviews | Consumer Ratings
Heil is owned by United Technologies, which is the parent company of Carrier and other popular HVAC brands, so the Heil brand shares similar technology features as the other brands under the same company umbrella. These features include a communicating feature that is optional.
The communicating feature is a state-of-the-art feature that allows the condenser and the furnace to communicate to the branded and proprietary thermostat for efficiency and diagnostics reasons.
Choosing this feature eliminates the possibility of converting back to a legacy thermostat unless the contractor runs the traditional legacy thermostat wire for the new system along with the wiring for the communicating system.
We also recommend if you choose the communicating system, you get an extended parts and labor warranty if one is available.
Select features of Heil gas furnaces include:
- Variable Speed ECM blowers
- dual firing rates and modulating firing rate furnaces in higher efficiency models

Air Source Heat Pump Tips | Dual Fuel Heating
A dual fuel heat pump is a heat pump with a gas furnace for backup heating rather than electric heat strips.
Air source heat pumps have a backup heating source. In most installations, the backup heating source is electric heat strips. Electric heat strips are very cheap to install in most cases. However, while electricity is generally regarded as 100% efficient, producing it is more costly than other heating methods. For a more efficient heat pump, consider a dual fuel heat pump, or a heat pump with a gas furnace for the backup heat source. It will be more costly to install, but your monthly bills will be reduced.
Additional Features
- Hot surface ignition offers direct main burner ignition skipping any pilot lights. This simplifies things and makes the system easier to troubleshoot in the event of a problem.
- Diagnostic abilities for better gas furnace troubleshooting
- Electronic ignition controls
- Dual-fuel capable with a heat pump for energy-saving heating performance. Must be set up properly with controls and other dual-fuel components.
- Rugged steel cabinet that is corrosion and rust-resistant

Warranties
Heil Gas Furnace Reviews
Warranties for Heil gas furnaces range from a 20-year limited warranty on various models of heat exchangers and lifetime limited warranties on other model heat exchangers. Heil gas furnace warranties on parts are industry standard 5 years. Always make sure to read the warranty and understand it before purchase. Additionally, it is important to understand that most HVAC manufacturers only offer a limited parts warranty. That means you have to pay for labor if something goes wrong. That is simply the nature of the HVAC industry.
Most contractors will give you their personal one-year warranty on parts and labor. At least any reputable contractor will their guarantee. A contractor that will give their warranty is likely one you can trust to be reliable and do good work. Warranties are an important consideration in the purchase decision. Someone who will stand behind their product and work is likely someone you depend on if something goes wrong. Lastly, on warranties, always make sure to register the warranty as soon as possible after the installation is complete.
Heil Gas Furnace Buyer’s Guide
You would not be here if you didn’t need a new gas furnace. That is likely the starting point for you. It’s good to read the reviews and get a feeling for the products and brands you are going to purchase. However, where do you go from here? You can’t just hop in the car and go down to the gas furnace store and pick out a furnace. So what is the process of buying a new gas furnace? And what are things you need to look out for in the process? Here are a few tips from our HVAC Consumer Buyer’s Guide article to help you:
- Get at least three bids from three different contractors. You should vet these contractors before you even make the first phone call.
- Always make sure the contractor submits a load calculation with their contract. Some contractors will not give you a load calculation until you sign the contract. However, it is a crucial part of buying a new gas furnace. Without the load calculation, they are only guessing, and that can cost you more money, now and in the long run.
- A reputable contractor will always look at the ductwork. Furthermore, if the size of the HVAC system changes from the size of your existing system, the size of the ductwork will need to be changed.

Oh my gosh…my 19 year old furnace that got carted out of here was better than my 4 year old Heil! I DO NOT recommend this brand of furnace.
After about 3 years it began to leak water. I have already had an expensive part replaced and have had it serviced several times hoping SOMEONE could fix the problem. My concrete is stained white from the water constantly pooled around the furnace. A few more service calls and will have spent more money on attempted repairs than I saved by buying this disaster.

Do not buy a heil furnance!! I read all these reviews and all of the above has happened to my furnace. I am older live alone and had this furnance installed in March 2012 and within 5 1\2 years of was breaking down three times over one and a half years. I am amazed the only way to contact heil company is a email. All they want to do is sell you junk! Please stay away from their products.
We purchased a HEIL furnace in 2012 and before the warranty was up it needed a gas valve replaced. Within 6 weeks it needed another gas valve replaced and in that 6 weeks the warranty expired. A year later and we are having to have the 3rd gas valve replaced. I’ve talked to several Heil employees and none of them stand behind their product. They see nothing unusual with it. Gas valves are $500.00 each and along with the service calls it is getting very costly heating our home with the Heil furnace. We lived in our previous home for 30 years and NEVER had 1 service call! I hope this review will save at least one person from going through the frustration and cost involved with a Heil furnace.
Hey
Getting ready to purchase a HEIL full system ac and furnace. Check with other brands and other has many issues. Looking for decent savings and comfort.
I purchased a new Heil Furnace approx 5 years ago, and I had it serviced because it was shutting off before reaching the temperature i had set on thermostat. Contractor said it was a flame sensor rod and harness. this was diagnosed December 14, 2017. I was told it was back-ordered until January 8 , 2018. Today i called and found out the parts are back-ordered until January 19. What kind of company is this??? In January you do not have parts for your products?? I am from Warwick, RI. It is freezing out. Imagine this…in January, a furnace company does not have parts!!! Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) on Heil furnaces…
I had a Heil gas furance installed in May of 2017 returned from holiday to find NO heat. Was informed that outside drip line was frozen. Company installed a condensor with drip line drain going under the house and connected to the outflow of the toilet. This is all very new and confusing for me. Can you tell me what is going on with this Heil furnace. Sincerely, M. Shoaf
My HEIL Furnace was installed May,2009. Label says it was manufactured Sep-2007. I haven’t had any problems with it. The HVAC Tech who serviced it in the spring wanted to install a Surge Protector, clean the Blower, and swap out my Non Flexible Ductwork with Flexible Ductwork. I don’t know anything about Furnaces or Ductwork, so I declined the Duct replacement. Yesterday the tech came to service the furnace and wanted to replace something to do with the motor. He repeated multiple times that”these units only last 10-15 years, so yours is coming up on the end of it’s life”. The first tech told me that as well. I told the tech yesterday I don’t even know if I’ll be in the house 5 years from now, so I don’t want a motor replaced. He said that was fine, and the motor should last me another 5 years. As a single woman, I have to wonder if they’re trying to sell me things and swap things out that don’t need to be done. I had the blower cleaned and the Surge Protector installed, because both techs mentioned it. I feel like the motor issue is something I’ll deal with then something actually quits working. The ductwork-same thing. I’ve read solid ductwork is better than flexible. Any opinions on that? This HVAC company said they don’t install “Cookie Cutter Systems”. They design and install systems according to each house and it’s specifications, and each time I ask about installing a Smart thermostat, I’m told “it’s so much extra work, may have to cut into the drywall, etc”, but the Ecobee3 comes with an adapter if you don’t have a C wire, so I’m not understanding the extra work and cutting into my walls.
1) I’ll take hard duct any day over flex duct.
2) Surge protector is good provided it was installed properly for both the air handler and the condenser unless you have a gas pack.
3) Many techs will always try to up-sale you for extras. This is common practice and some techs get a commission and some do not but it makes them look good to the boss when they have lots of up-sales. Up-sales = job security to a tech. For the consumer, be an informed consume to you know what is good and what is fluff.
4 ) the Ecobee indeed does have an adapter for the C-wire. It basically uses the green wire for the C wire. The G or green wire is for fan control. It then wirelessly connects to another adapter in the air handler for fan control. You are correct, no need to pull wires or cut holes in the wall with this adapter. If you are an avid DIYer you can do this yourself however I recommend a pro do it if you are confident about it.
5) Call the HVAC company and tell them what you want. If you have already purchased the thermostat and adapter (which I recommend) then they should be more than happy to install it for you for an hourly or flat charge. This charge should be reasonable and really not cost you more than you paid for the thermostat. Every company is different for what rates they charge so I never give prices. You are paying for skilled labor plus the owners overhead that keeps skilled techs working for him. If they provide the thermostat and the adapter be prepared to pay more than what you can pay elsewhere. If they provide the thermostat you should get a warranty for labor and materials directly from the HVAC company. In other words, if something goes wrong with the thermostat within a year they will repair/replace it for no charge. And that is why you will pay more for the thermostat if they provide it.
Currently going through a nightmare with our Heil unit. It’s only a little over 3 years old and had a defective inducer upon installation. It was discovered after a month of service calls, when the unit was only a month old. Last year it was a pressure switch, that was the wrong one. Now we’re sitting here freezing, after UGI changed the angle on the vent pipe, that was not the problem. Now they’re talking about another faulty pressure switch, or possibly the circuit board. After 3 service calls in 4 days, we still have to keep rebooting the system, and it’s still flashing 3 times, and locking out for 3 hours at a time. Over $4,000 for the unit, and this is what you get.Should be a lemon law for this!

Being a dealer of Heil furnaces gives me a lot of time to see different models and variations of the product. The Heil brand continues to improve the quality, efficiencies and durability of their products without increasing cost to the consumers. I personally have a dual fuel high efficiency Heil system in my house and I find it to be very reliable.
What most people fail to realize is that the quality of your installation makes all the difference in the world. Look at it this way. Why are your premium cars considered premium? Aren’t they made of the same materials as other manufacturers. It comes down to how that material is put together… craftsmanship. The better the craftsmanship, the better performance and reliability you will experience.
If you are in the market for a new heating and cooling system, do yourself a favor, don’t higher someone based solely on price. Higher a qualified and reputable contractor. You will be glad you did.
Heil gas furnaces are inferior to any others i have owned. i recently replaced a unit after only 51/2 yrs because of damaged heat exchanger. i was stupid enough to pay for labor costs relative to the replacement. That seems absolutely ridiculous but when its mid teen outside you need to do what has to be done. the replacement unit has been a horror story also. after three shutdowns and technical help the circuit board was replaced but the unit still malfunctions. The unit will not ignite after 3-5 days of use and it seems the local distributor avoids proper help, just lip service. i truly expect that this product be removed at no cost and replaced witha quality furnace, In addition it seem plausible that all my costs to date be reimbursed immediately. I will never use this product again, will tell everyone i know to avoid it also, and am conyacting legal help to recover all i have spent.
