Ducane Furnace Buyers Guide
Here at High Performance HVAC, we have an HVAC Equipment Buyers Guide that will help you make a new purchase. It will help you through the process of buying new equipment including a Ducane gas furnace. Some highlights from the guide include:
- Always get at least 3 bids from contractors when purchasing new equipment.
- The lowest bid is not always the best. It is the quality of the contractor. Someone who is going to do the job right the first time. A bad installation will give you frustration for the life of the equipment. Additionally, a bad installation will also fail at giving you the rated efficiency of the equipment.
- Never fail to get a load calculation from the contractor. Never base the sizing on the old equipment and never use the rule of thumbs.
- For forced-air systems, make sure the ductwork is good. Buying an efficient gas furnace and installing it into bad ductwork will not give you the rated efficiency.
- If the manufacturer offers a labor warranty purchase it especially for the premium models.
- Brand of equipment is a secondary consideration. Quality of contractor is the first.

I had a Ducane 95G1E furnace installed two years ago along with a 4AC13B air conditioner and new coil. I also put in a new Aprilaire humidifier. My system has worked flawlessly. My HVAC person told me my last single stage 80% AFUE furnace was too big for my house. He installed a smaller unit which runs a little longer to heat up but the house is more balanced and comfortable. The heat is even through out the house. I was weary at first as I heard about the pressure switches not lasting. I was told Ducane fixed this and I have not had a problem.
My HVAC installer told me there are lots of hacks and bad installers out there that do not know what they are doing. This leads to the furnace breaking down because of poor installation and the consumer then blames the product. Many people just go with the lowest bid. I know my system is balanced since everything is new. Many people leave out the details if they are working with and older coil and/or AC unit which can cause the system to be unbalanced. Then they post a poor rating on here or other sites because they don’t know what they are talking about.
I would buy another Ducane again as I happy with the quieter system and much lower utility bills. Hope this helps and let the buyer beware with the installer you are working with. You get what you pay for in skilled labor.
I just bought a house with a new Ducane furnace. The furnace is very noisy, is this a common problem?
I put in a Ducane 95G1-E Furnace @ AC system four years ago and so far it has worked fine.
I live in Michigan and the winters here can be gruesome. Replaced my old Carrier gas furnace with a Ducane 4 years ago. It went out one time and it turned out to be a my electrical panel had a breaker that went bad. Can’t blame Ducane for that.
We got a Ducane gas furnace for my mother’s house when hers went out. She has not had a problem with it in the two years she has had it and her gas bill is not as much as with the old gas furnace.

We have a Ducane MPGA Series gas furnace that is three and a half years old. The circuit board and Smartvalve crapped out which in turn let our house freeze in the Chicago metro area. What a disappointment. It is now going to cost more than I paid for the furnace to repair it and all the broken pipes.

Stay away from DUCANE!
