Home Ventilation and Pressure - It is becoming increasingly necessary to have your home checked for home pressurization. Does your home have negative pressure inside of it? Do you have a gas or oil furnace which is inside the home and uses the air in the home for combustion air to fire the furnace or boiler?
Do you have other gas or oil-burning appliances, a fireplace, gas logs, or anything which consumes air inside the home? This does not refer to furnaces that are located in the attic (unless you have a completely sealed attic or the attic has a maximum height of fewer than 30 inches.)

These appliances consume air and along with some other air-consuming appliances in your home, the issue of home pressure and home ventilation comes into question especially in this day and age when the drive is on to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Homes are being built tighter with better insulation, doors, and windows. Less infiltration air is being fed into the modern homes of today so it’s important to give the home a safety check to make sure there is enough air left over for the occupants of the home.

How Electronic Air Cleaners Work | Indoor Air Quality - The electronic air cleaner cleans the air electronically. Most electronic air cleaners (EACs) have two ways of filtering the air. In addition to cleaning the air electronically, electronic air cleaners have metal mesh pre-filters. Furthermore, these pre-filters catch large particles that the electronic portion of the cleaner would not be able to filter effectively. It is necessary to ensure these pre-filters receive cleaning on a regular maintenance schedule along with the electronic cells inside the electronic air cleaner. Additionally, electronic air cleaners use a minimal amount of energy and only use power when the fan is running.

Bad Ductwork - Ductwork is necessary to deliver the air throughout the HVAC system. It is important that the system has integrity with no leaks. Ductwork is made of different materials. Duct systems also have different construction methods which hold the ductwork together.
Pictured above is an old ductwork system (which needs to be replaced) made of duct board, which is a rigid fiberglass board, metal, and flex ductwork. The duct board is cut to size from the ductwork sizing requirements for the tonnage and taped together with special duct tape. For the branches coming off the duct board trunk, metal collars are inserted into holes cut to size in the duct board. Flex ductwork is attached to the metal collars for the branch ductwork. (more…)
