It was working fine, but in the last couple of days, I have to switch it off then on to get the unit to run and heat. It never reaches temp, and then I have to repeat the process.

Please help as this thermostat is new. I can’t think that it’s a problem. Is it a problem with the new thermostat or a problem with the gas furnace? Thanks for your help!! (more…)

Airease Heat Pump Reviews | Consumer Ratings

Airease Heat Pump Reviews | Consumer RatingsAirease Heat Pump Reviews | Consumer Ratings - Airease offers split system heat pumps from single-stage up to variable capacity high-efficiency models that offer premium performance. HSPF ratings for Airease heat pumps range from 8.5 for their baseline model up to 10 HSPF for the premium model.

HSPF is a way of measuring heat pump efficiency and translates to Heat Seasonal Performance Factor. HSPF only measures the efficiency of the heat pump in heating mode. In cooling mode, SEER is used to measure the efficiency of the heat pump. (more…)

Furnace Blower Fan Wont Turn Off

Furnace Blower Fan Won't Turn OffFurnace Blower Fan Wont Turn Off - Hello Richard, I have a problem with my furnace where the indoor blower will turn off. My furnace seems to be heating okay it is just the blower will not shut off. It is an older furnace, and I have checked the thermostat settings. Its setting is automatic with the fan switch part set to automatic, so I know that is not the problem causing the furnace blower not to shut and run continuously. So what else do I need to check, and is this a problem I can fix myself, or do I need to call a service and repair company to repair it? Please help!! Thanks!! (more…)

How to Bleed Baseboards and Radiators

How to Bleed Baseboards and Radiators - Richard, my wife and I just purchased a new (older) home that has a hot water boiler in the basement. We used it last winter with no problems. We think it makes excellent heat, much better heat than the old forced air system we had in our previous house.

The problem is that some of our radiators have stopped heating. I am wondering what happened. Our boiler works fine, and most of the radiators work. But there are a few that do not heat at all. Please help!! Thanks (more…)

Air Conditioner Blowing Hot Air

Air Conditioner Blowing Hot AirAir Conditioner Blowing Hot Air – Hello Richard, my air conditioner is blowing hot air today and I am wondering what’s going on with it. It is mild weather here and still winter, but the temperature here got above 80° F today, and when I came home from work, I decided to turn the AC on to cool the place down a bit.

Cooler weather hits tonight when it’s going to be around 40° F according to the forecast. Is this something I need to worry about right now? It is uncomfortable here right now, but I can hold out until tonight. Am I just a little worried the next time I need the air conditioner? Should I call for service? Or maybe there is something I can fix?

Heat Pump Indoor Fan Runs Continuously

Heat Pump Indoor Fan Runs Continuously

Heat Pump Indoor Fan Runs Continuously – Richard, what would cause my heat pump indoor fan to run continuously? My indoor fan motor, on the heat setting, runs constantly and won’t cut off unless I lower the thermostat by 2° F. It is sometimes annoying for me to constantly change the setting just to get it to shut down plus trying to maintain a comfortable temperature without the fan running all the time. What could the problem be and is it something I can fix myself or do I need to call in a service company to make the repair? Thank you for your help!!

Your HVAC System Its Mechanical And Electrical

Your HVAC System Its Mechanical And Electrical - With the change of the seasons come changes in the way you use the “comfort system” in your home or office.

Colorado, especially, is famous for radical variations in the weather from day to day during the “shoulder seasons.”  In fact, many people are finding it necessary to switch from heating to cooling – and maybe back again – all within the same 24-hour period during this time of year.

Your home or office HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system is a complex mechanical configuration.

But it’s also an electrical system.

Now is the time – after the worst of winter and before the summer really heats up – to make sure your HVAC system is in tip-top shape.

Your HVAC technician can help… but so can your electrician.

HVAC Electricians Are Specialists

Not all HVAC techs are electricians… and not all electricians specialize in HVAC work.

So what sets an HVAC electrician apart from other professionals who might help with the comfort system in your home or office?

*Experience. Naturally, an HVAC electrician has “seen it all” when it comes to taking care of the complex electrical power system upon which your indoor comfort depends.  A rookie electrician or HVAC tech – or a technician who specializes only in the mechanical aspects of your HVAC system – probably hasn’t come across enough situations to have learned what your HVAC electrician will know.  Problems that might puzzle a mechanical specialist will likely be solved more readily by an HVAC electrician.

*Knowledge and training.  An HVAC electrician has the training necessary to understand all the workings of your indoor comfort system, from electrical theory (and safety) to the ability to read blueprints and technical schematics and know where key HVAC components are located.  An HVAC electrician is also up-to-speed on state and local construction regulations and is thoroughly versed in the National Electric Code.

Electrical and Mechanical components work together to make it all work

Electrical and Mechanical components work together to make it all work

*Skill with a variety of systems and components.  A seasoned HVAC electrician is familiar with the intricacies of lots of different types of systems, from those for single-family homes to the larger systems designed to provide comfort to apartment buildings, office complexes, and even hospitals.  From the wiring to the controls, your HVAC electrician has the skills necessary to take care of any electrical issues with your indoor comfort system.

*Certification.  Your HVAC electrician is likely a qualified professional and undoubtedly will have been trained and certified in the proper handling of refrigerants (an EPA requirement).  Many will also have additional professional certifications as HVAC electrical specialists. Many states also require HVAC technicians and electricians to be licensed. Has your HVAC electrician had any specialized training, from organizations like the Refrigeration Service Engineers’ Society, or HVAC Excellence? It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Have your HVAC electrician take a look at your indoor comfort system.  How long since your system was last inspected?  If there are worn or defective parts that need replacement – or, worse yet, if there’s anything in your HVAC electrical system that might be hazardous – the time to find out about it is now.

Condenser Fan Motor Not Turning

Condenser Fan Motor Repair for a Goodman Heat PumpHeat Pump AC Condenser Fan Motor Not Turning - Both heat pumps and air conditioners use the process of refrigeration to provide heating and cooling. One of the major components of that process is the condenser. A major component of the condenser is a condenser fan motor. Furthermore, both air source heat pumps and air conditioners have a condenser fan motor. Is your Condenser Fan Motor Not Turning?

For an air conditioner, the condenser fan motor is used to reject heat. For a heat pump, the condenser fan motor both rejects heat and pulls air into the condenser coil to absorb heat. Finally, there are times when the condenser fan motor will fail making a repair necessary. (more…)
