The models made in Mexico redesigned to fix other problematic issues necessitating a prior recall need to be recalled again and redesigned using steel (again), not crap alloys. What they did was use two 60s instead of a dedicated 30 for blower and separate higher for pump. Causing wiring issues that blow circuits and cause constant wear and tear on other components. Thus causing cold air (no heat) as the result. Figured it out and rewired. System installation by licensed contractor yesterday didn’t work until discovered design mistake and re wired properly to make up for manufacturing problem. Luckily for us paying 8k for the system we discovered/guy came out and fixed. That circuit defective design would ruin the rest of the system bit by bit if left as designed.
Systems should be redesigned properly so this is not a problem. And buying a brand new system with that “defect” in design/ manufacturing I doubt this mess will last 5 years let alone the 10 years they warranty. Also the components are either plastic(BAD) or cheap alloys and not able to “repair” INSTEAD like vehicles being cheaply made in China and Mexico etc; and the expense/waste in that industry everything must be replaced constantly because you can’t fix plastic (and cheap crap alloys)
gave up my working great older heat air system for this and it was steel etc. Only needed repair once in 20 years and for that the tech removed the heating unit/coils and welded the small Crack that was the problem at 15 years old. That system was designed and built correctly.. Reinstalled the fixed original part; that was five years ago and never broke again. So though my fingers are crossed and not upset with heat contractor, these new pump systems are built cheap and can’t be repaired, instead have to continually replace which is expensive ; and bad for the environment and our pocketbooks..plastic and those cheap alloys being used are the most environmentally toxic material to produce in the world.. and if they’d not already gotten rid of my old system: heat pump and air conditioner I’d have them put it back in and give this plastic/cheap metal alloy designed poorly/wired wrong unit(s) back.
Consumers need to get vocal. All of these “design” updates and computers aren’t needed in an air system at all… are destroying the environment; not helping it as their marketing campaigns flat out lie about and ripping everyone off with endless replacement costs that are added into their investment column to offset their own personal global debts. Endless “DEBT Market” for them. Expensive and wasteful. Not that rheem is the only Corp to offshore to offset their own global debts to global investors but I should have done more research and only agreed to a system replacement actually made in USA ( not just the banner of “an American corporation”)
Rheem AC are not worth the money. They offer only one year on labor coverage. Think about it, a $10K unit and one year on labor and 10 years on parts only. I had a defective manufacture weld. Had to have my hvac guy come out and repair weld, regas and put 9 plus pouds of coolant in. Called customer service to try to get refund for gas and coolant and they said it was not a part. I even had to call them back. go with someone with the best labor and overall warranty like a bumper to bumper in a car.
Rheem is junk! Got 10 months use out of a brand new pool heater and they won’t cover a leaky heatexchanger. Worst customer service and they genuinely don’t seem to care. They are also rated at 1 star on most consumer advisory sites. Buy at your own risk!!!
Avoid Rheem! In 2017, my Ruud/Rheem AC starts to leak Freon after installation 6 years ago. Even though the coil failed a little earlier than the other brands I’ve use, I didn’t blame on Rheem and though it might be wear and tear. I replaced a new rheem evaporator coil and pay the Freon refill on my own. Now after one summer use, the new replaced coil starts to leak Freon again. A technician came to check and said the coil I got from Rheem in 2017 is an originally defective part and I have to replace it again, which is another thousand dollars. Why do I have to spend thousands dollars to replace coil and refill Freon every summer if Rheem’s product is qualified? Is there any other AC brands have to be replaced coil and refill Freon every summer? Rheem refused to offer any explanation and technical assistance. Such an irresponsible and sly company! Shame on Rheem and will never purchase their product again!
I have been blessed with an HVAC system that has lasted 23 years alomost ZERO maintenance…York AC and 92% efficient gas furnace on my first floor…replaced the blower last week to get me thru the winter in Delaware (mild) Probably time to replace before it is an emergency!!!
HVAC tech has proposed 3 options, Armstrong 4SCU14LE136P-714 A/C and A93UH1D070B12A gas furnace, Rheem RA1436AJ1NB A/C & R92PA070131MSA Furnace. He also proposed a Bosch Heat pump but that one is out of my range…
Please provide any constructive comments you may have on either recommended system. Form previous review Rheem quality seems to be in question.
Bet advise, go with the best most competent contractor that will stand behind their product and install the system properly.
RHEEM Air Conditioning units are terrible. I purchased my Rheem unit Model # RF1P2421SPANJAN00 & RA1624AJ1NA in September 2015 and already had to replace the compressor unit after only 2years. Though the compressor was covered I had to pay another $800 for labor and parts to install the unit. This is a terrible company that doesn’t stand by their units and doesn’t cover all the cost. Why should I pay $4000 to replace my old unit with the exact same one then have to pay another $800 only 2 years later????
I never write into reviews but in this case I’m so upset that it just cost me another $800 and the company doesn’t even care. I’m not blaming the company that installed the unit because it had nothing to do with them it has to all do with the company Rheem.
Now I know why Rheem is ranked towards the bottom of the list for AC units.
