Boiler Systems Installation - It is very important to get it right the first time!

Boiler Systems Installation - Purchasing a boiler can be daunting for most people. Many people do not understand boilers and do not know certain components of boiler systems. Typically they trust the installing contractor to outfit and install the boiler with all the proper boiler components.

That includes making recommendations for optional boiler components that increase efficiency and performance. There are resources you can use to try to understand boiler components such as High Performance HVAC. However, overall, this research or study will not make one an expert in boiler installation. We have to trust the boiler installer and the skills of the contractor.

Air Handler Blower Motor | HVAC Technical

Warning!! blowers can cause injury if you do not turn the power off! Additionally, blowers that are belt-driven can be harmful to loose clothing and fingers. Be very cautious when working around moving parts such as blowers.

Air Handler Blower MotorAir Handler Blower Motor - All air handling units have a blower located inside the air handler cabinet. The air handler blower motor has a motor that drives it. Some air handling unit blowers are direct drive and some are belt driven.

Many light commercial and residential blowers are direct drive blower motors by the motor’s shaft while many commercial air handling units are belt driven by the blower motor and some sheaves attached to the blower motor shaft and the shaft attached to the blower wheel.

Some sheaves are adjustable and some are not. If the belt is slipping always change the belt first before adjusting the sheave. Adjusting the sheave can cause the unit to produce more or less than designed airflow. Sheaves are typically set by Testing and Balancing HVAC Technicians. (more…)

Boiler Supply and Return Piping

Boiler Supply and Return PipingBoiler Supply and Return Piping - Any heating pipe system will experience a heat loss in the pipe even when the pipe is insulated. The loss is far greater when the pipe is uninsulated. Good boiler piping insulation will reduce the heat loss experienced in the pipe run throughout the loop especially where the pipe runs in unconditioned or unheated spaces where heating is not necessary.

Boiler Supply and Return Piping

Good Supply and Return Insulated Pipe will increase the efficiency of the boiler and reduce overall the heat loss of the entire system as a whole throughout the heating season. Insulate exposed piping wherever you find it and replace old insulation that is falling off. Be careful to identify the correct insulation and never ever disturb asbestos insulation. Asbestos is dangerous especially if you breathe in the particles from it. A professional asbestos remediation company must be hired to remove it safely.
