Boiler Efficiency Options | Buyers Advice

Boiler Efficiency Options
Boiler Efficiency Options - High Performance HVAC wants to help you understand your next boiler purchase better. To do this we want to break down all the different types of boilers and components, and various options and features that you may find when making a purchase.

Typically, you want to find a like replacement for the boiler you currently have installed, or if you are buying a new boiler, you want a system that will handle the load and is durable. The most important feature of the new purchase is usually the fuel efficiency simply because the cost of running the new system will give you pay back over time for the new purchase.

How Hydronics Works | HVAC Technical for Consumers

How Hydronics Works

Air Source Chillers provide cool water for a hydronic piping system

How Hydronics Works | HVAC Technical for Consumers - Hydronics refers to using water and chilled water, steam boilers and hot water boilers, and other methods of transferring heat using water.

A boiler or chiller is used to heat or cool the water and then the water is transferred through the hydronic piping loops to heat exchangers such as coils or baseboards where heat is transferred from the water to the air for heating and from the air to the water for cooling to provide comfort for people or a process.

Hydronics is very popular in commercial and industrial HVAC applications for heating and cooling occupants in large buildings and providing heating and cooling for equipment and machines including computers and servers. Basically in a nutshell Hydronics uses water to move heat from one place to another.

Automatic Air Vents | HVAC Hydronics

Automatic Air Vents
The automatic air vent is found in the piping system of water loops. If air is introduced into the water loop system it eventually finds its way to the automatic air vent where it is vented. The automatic air vents are located throughout the system. Automatic air vents may also be found throughout any hydronic loop system. A hydronic loop is a water loop.

These water loops can be for hot water or chilled water. Any hydronic loop needs an air management system or automatic air bleeder system to keep the air out of the system otherwise, the air will be up in the system and air will block or prevent the flow of water throughout the loop. Water naturally has air in it. Air vents help the water loop by: (more…)

Circulator Pump Maintenance Basics | HVAC Hydronics

Circulator Pump Maintenance Basics | HVAC HydronicsCirculator Pump Maintenance Basics | HVAC Hydronics - How many times have you repaired a coupling (or know a technician who repaired a coupling) only to return in a short period of time to repair the same coupling again? Did you or that technician take the time to figure out why the coupling went out in the first place? Sometimes we do but most of the time we are in a hurry and want to get the system fixed.

Then move on to another job. There is an inner desire in all of us to make the customer happy by restoring their hydronic system. Restore it so comfort or temperature control can be realized once again. Going back to the basics can help us from making that return call to make another repair.

Condenser Coil Repair | HVAC Refrigeration

New Condenser Coil Repair - HVAC Crane LiftCondenser Coil Repair - A crane is used here to lift a new condenser coil to a rooftop. The old condenser coil was leaking and could no longer be repaired. The process involved recovering all the refrigerant from the Trane rooftop unit.

The rooftop unit was then partially disassembled and the old coil cut out from the system taking great care and planning to ensure the new coil could be retrofitted to the old refrigeration piping system.

Good planning and skilled HVAC techs make the jobs go smoothly and make the replacement seem easy especially to the customer. (more…)

Boiler Water Loops | Hydronic Piping Systems

hot water boiler piping
Boiler Water Loops - In boiler water loops there are different ways to arrange the piping depending on the budget at installation time and how efficient and balanced you want the hydronic piping system to be when the job is complete. Some piping arrangements require more pipe upon initial installation. However, they are easier to balance and provide even heat throughout all the radiators or baseboards.
