Hot Water Boiler Reset Control | Heating and Cooling

Hot Water Boiler Reset Control
Hot Water Boiler Reset Control - Richard, We are looking at replacing our boiler with a new hot water boiler. The HVAC contractor, I suppose he is the salesman for the HVAC contractor, is trying to sell us what he refers to as a reset control for our boiler. He tells us it will save us more money by making our boiler more efficient. I think I understand how it works but my wife is not entirely sure about it. Can you tell us what you think about a boiler reset control and how it works?

Thanks, and we have learned so much from High Performance HVAC. And keep up the good work.

Furnace and Boiler Oil Filters | HVAC Heating

Furnace and Boiler Oil Filters | HVAC HeatingFurnace and Boiler Oil Filters - Oil burner oil filters are important to keep trash out of the burner gun and plugging the nozzle. A dirty filter can also choke the system from firing properly by preventing the correct amount of oil flow from reaching the nozzle. Oil furnace oil filters or oil boiler oil filters should be changed on at least an annual basis. More if the oil or oil tank is of poor quality. It is also recommended that the oil furnace or oil boiler be shut down when oil delivery is made.

MagicAire Air Handler with Hot Water Coil

MagicAire Air Handler with Hot Water CoilThis MagicAire Air Handler serves as part of a large club and uses a DX (direct expansion) coil for cooling and a hot water coil in the air handler for heating. Many commercial air handlers are set up in this manner for heating and air conditioning. Hot water for the hot water coil is supplied from an oil boiler which supplies hot water to other air handling units in this building. In the center of the photo is the hot water coil and to the left, the line set which feeds the DX coil can be seen. (more…)

Oil Furnace Boiler Pump | HVAC Heating Systems

Oil Furnace Boiler Pump | HVAC Heating SystemsOil Furnace Boiler Pump - A major component of oil furnaces is the oil pump and its job is to pump oil from the oil tank to the oil burner. It is important that the oil system is primed and free of any objects or particles that can plug the system. As well the oil pumping system must have integrity with no holes in the oil pipe where the pump can suck air into the oil line. Any air sucked into the line or a plugged oil line will cause problems with the oil burner that may result in a non-functional burner or a burner that does not produce efficient heat. (more…)

Hot Water Boilers – HVAC Hydronic Heating

Hot Water Boilers
Hot Water Boilers - HVAC Hydronic Heating - People who use boilers for their primary source of heat report that they love the kind of heat that a boiler provides, whether they have a hot water steam boiler. If you thought that there is only one type of heat, you might want to reconsider. All you have to do is add adjectives to the beginning of the word heat. There is:

  • Dry heat
  • Wet heat
  • Drafty heat
  • Even heat
  • Uneven heat

Boiler heat will give you even, draft-less heat. That is opposed to “drafty”, uneven heat that some heat pumps and forced air systems provide.
