Oil Furnace Boiler Pump | HVAC Heating SystemsOil Furnace Boiler Pump - A major component of oil furnaces is the oil pump and its job is to pump oil from the oil tank to the oil burner. It is important that the oil system is primed and free of any objects or particles that can plug the system. As well the oil pumping system must have integrity with no holes in the oil pipe where the pump can suck air into the oil line. Any air sucked into the line or a plugged oil line will cause problems with the oil burner that may result in a non-functional burner or a burner that does not produce efficient heat.

If you own an oil furnace or an oil boiler your oil burner assembly has an oil pump as a part of the oil burner assembly. As a part of periodic maintenance that is required of oil furnaces or oil boilers, the pump needs some attention as does the oil filter when the maintenance is performed. Inside most oil pumps is a strainer that catches foreign particles that make it past the oil filter. It is important that this strainer is cleaned or preferably changed to prevent blockage of the oil pump.

Most strainers are disposable so changing the strainer is necessary when the filter is changed in the oil line. Changing the oil strainer is a major part of oil furnace or boiler maintenance. It is important that after the strainer is replaced that the cover of the oil pump is sealed properly lest air enters the oil system at the pump.
