VAV Air Handlers are ideal for providing zones in a commercial building. Office space typically has several offices and open areas that need to be conditioned for the comfort of the people working in those areas or offices. By installing VAV boxes and zoning the ductwork from those VAV boxes these areas and offices can be kept comfortable using a VAV air handler system. More on how VAV boxes work. (more…)
Data Center Perforated Tiles for Cooling Servers - There is a lot to consider with perforated tiles in data centers and depending on who you talk to you will get different answers. The server floor in a data center is typically built on a raised floor with cold air being pumped under the floor by large CRAH (Computer Room Air Handlers) or CRAC units (Computer Room Air Conditioners). (more…)
Prevent Poor Ventilation in the Home - You already know that inadequate ventilation in the home can lead to mold, mildew, and poor indoor airflow. This, in turn, can trap pollutants indoors, leading to allergies and other, more serious health risks. So what can you do to prevent this? Fortunately, you have several options, including energy-efficient ones. Here are some of them. (more…)
DDC Integration | HVAC DDC Controls - This is an electrical project which is in the process of changing the old control system to a new DDC control system. Installing new controls in an occupied building takes plenty of planning to avoid interruption in air conditioning or heating. The old control system was a basic electro-mechanical control system which little more than just basic building management control.
Common Sense Safety HVAC Codes - Some HVAC Installation technicians take pride in their work and make any installation job they perform look like a work of art. There are others who don’t care and want to install the unit as quickly as possible and move on down the road to the next job so they can do the same.
It really does not take much more time to do things right in the first place including reading the instruction manual that comes with every new condenser or air handler (actually all new HVAC equipment comes with instructions for installation). (more…)
Air Handler Components. This article will take different types of air handlers and disassemble them part by part. This will give you a good description of each part and hopefully a better understanding of the air handler. Most of the components associated with the air handler are in the air handler. However, there are a few components which are not in the air handler but associated with the air handler.
There are some hot water and cold water coils which are not fixed in the air handler. They are downstream in the ductwork. There are also some gas and electric duct heaters which are mounted in the ductwork. They are completely reliant on the air handler for air flow. These systems will also be covered. Hopefully, this article will offer you a comprehensive look at the air handler, all its parts, and how it functions. (more…)
HVAC Duct Systems - Ductwork systems channel the air to the spaces where it is needed from the air handler. HVAC duct systems also will pull the air from the space and channels it back to the air handler where it needs to be conditioned. In some commercial applications, the area above the ceiling is considered the return duct. All the return air is channeled back to the air handler through the plenum where it is conditioned in the air handler. Part of the conditioning process is the air being passed through an air filter and then an exchanger like a coil or heat exchanger. (more…)
Most air conditioning and heating systems require some form of ductwork. Ductwork channels or directs the air to places in the dwelling where the conditioned air is needed. There are many types of ductwork available. Often times the ductwork can make a big difference in your utility bills. For that reason, it is important that the ductwork is installed correctly by qualified installation technicians. (more…)
York VAV Air Handlers | HVAC Zoning - This York air handling unit serves several VAV boxes and runs on a static pressure control set point determined by a DDC program. This program has a static pressure control setpoint and sends a signal to the variable frequency drive to speed up or slow down the blower to maintain the proper static pressure control setpoint. When the VAV boxes need more air the drive speeds the air handler blower up.
When the VAV boxes need little the drive slows the blower down. The VAV boxes are controlled by a thermostat in their respective zones.
HVAC Tip - Having the proper humidity levels in your home or business is important not only for your health but also the amount of energy your HVAC systems use to keep you comfortable. If the humidity level is high in the summer you will not feel comfortable. If the humidity level is low in the winter you will not feel warm when the thermostat is set for an average temperature. This will result in turning the thermostat up to compensate and you will use more energy to stay comfortable. A properly designed and installed HVAC system will keep the proper levels of humidity in your home or business and save you money in energy costs by reducing the amount you use the HVAC system.
