Air Conditioning Service Repair – HVAC Cooling
Air Conditioning Service Repair - No matter what name brand (York, Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Lennox, Rheem) of air conditioning and/or heating unit you purchase some time or the other you will need to have that air conditioning and heating equipment checked for a problem and repaired. Even if you have regular air conditioning maintenance done. While there are air
conditioning and heating manufacturers that engineer quality into their air conditioning and heating equipment, that equipment is prone to breakdown simply because it is a mechanical/electrical device and will need repair sometime throughout its useful life. (more…)
What Type of HVAC System Needed for Sun Porch
What Type of HVAC System Needed for Sun Porch - We added a 300 sq. ft. of living space to our home as a sun porch. How do we effectively, efficiently heat/cool this space? We’ve been pitched several options. 1) Use existing with a manual duct damper to the new sun porch. 2) same as above but use a zoned approach. Zoned w/auto dampers for main house 1st floor and sun porch plus separate thermostats. 3) HVAC with new units for sun porch (e.g., radiate, forced air, etc) (more…)
TXV or Thermostatic Expansion Valve | Refrigeration for HVAC
TXV or Thermostatic Expansion Valve are used in air conditioners and heat pumps to meter refrigerant.
The TXV or Thermostatic Expansion Valve is preferred over other refrigeration metering devices because it only allows a specified amount of refrigerant to flow based on demand. Any type of refrigeration metering device creates a pressure drop in the refrigerant and with a pressure drop of the refrigerant a temperature drop also occurs.
This temperature is necessary to drop the refrigerant down to temperature lower than ambient temperatures inside the structure being cooled. This allows the refrigerant to absorb the heat contained in the air passing over the evaporator coil. (more…)
Basic Heat Pump Maintenance | Maintaining HVAC Systems
Basic Heat Pump Maintenance - A good heat pump maintenance plan will include a thorough check of the refrigeration system, the electrical system, the heat pump controls, and the air filter system of the heat pump. Heat pump maintenance is as important as maintenance on your vehicle. If we fail to take good care of our vehicle then it is more prone to breakdowns whereas if we keep it in good condition with proper maintenance it is more reliable and repairs usually cost less when repairs are needed.
Of course, if you take good care of the heat pump with regular maintenance major repairs will likely never occur and it is possible you will repair free with a good maintenance plan in place for your heat pump. Basic maintenance adds life to the equipment, keeps the equipment running longer adding to the lifespan, and during the overall life will keep the heat pump more efficient.

Heat Pump Components | HVAC Heating
Heat Pump Components - Heat Pumps are similar to air conditioners with a few extra components. Components added to allow the heat pump to offer both heating and cooling. The two major differences between a heat pump and an air conditioner are the controls and the refrigeration circuit.
While there are many different types of heat pumps and air conditioners the methods and means these two types of heating and cooling systems use are basically the same. (more…)
How to Hook Up a Home Thermostat | HVAC Control
How to Hook Up a Home Thermostat - If you need to install a new thermostat then you have found the right place to learn. Below we will describe to you how to hook up a new digital thermostat. Whether the old thermostat is bad or not if you simply want to replace your old one and hook up a new one. First of all, the first thing you need to take into consideration is to select the right replacement thermostat.
To select the correct replacement you need to know what kind of HVAC equipment you have in your home. Or where you want to hook up the new thermostat. There are numerous types of air conditioner and heating combinations. Therefore, to simplify things, we will cover a basic gas furnace and air conditioner split system HVAC system. For hooking up a new thermostat similar systems to the air conditioner/gas furnace combination would be: (more…)
Variable Speed GE ECM Motors | HVAC Control
Variable Speed GE ECM Motors - When you look at buying a new HVAC system it will surely arise when the HVAC salesman or HVAC contractor who comes to give you an estimate will show an HVAC system that has a variable speed motor or the GE ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) installed in it. These are systems that have a higher efficiency rating than the HVAC equipment that has the typical electric blower or condenser fan motor. (more…)
Window Unit Air Conditioners Heat Pumps | HVAC Portable Units

Window Unit Air Conditioners Heat Pumps – First of all, window unit air conditioners are a popular way of providing cooling in small to medium-sized rooms. Window unit air conditioners are easy to install. They usually only require someone with the strength to lift the unit into a window and secure it. Then you plug it in and turn it on. It’s that simple and is the closest thing to plug-and-play air conditioning you can find. (more…)
Attic Installation Horizontal Flow Air Handler | HVAC Airflow
This is a horizontal flow air handler installed in the attic. Notice the drain pan under the air handling unit to catch condensation if the primary pan were to overflow. This is the secondary condensation pan which is installed under the air handler to save a ceiling.
Also slightly visible is a float switch which offers triple protection against flooding in an attic if the primary drain were to plug up. The primary and secondary drains coming from the air handler also drain into condensation pumps. These pumps have floats inside them and a reservoir. (more…)
