Ohms Law and HVAC | Heating and Cooling Technical

Ohms Law and HVAC - Ohms Law is used by HVAC Technicians, electricians, electronics technicians, engineers, and others who deal with electrical circuits every day. It is a necessary fundamental that anyone dealing with electricity or electronics should learn. Ohms law is used in many different applications to solve problems (troubleshooting electrical problems), for sizing wire and designing circuits, and for designing printed circuit boards (PCBs). Ohms law is a basic fundamental formula that helps electrical specialist solves problems. Ohms Law is necessary to learn if you are going to be an above-average technician in HVAC.

DDC Controlled Chilled Water Actuator | HVAC Automation

DDC Controlled Chilled Water Actuator

DDC Controlled Chilled Water Actuator

DDC Controlled Chilled Water Actuator | HVAC Automation. This chilled water actuator is attached to a valve which supplies chilled water to the air handling unit. The air handling has a chilled water coil. The actuator modulates the valve based on a set point inside the DDC program. If the program has trim and respond capabilities the set point will rise up and down based on demand. Demand from the VAV boxes or the HVAC zones. Most DDC controlled actuators work off of a DC volt or current signal. (more…)

Oil Controls Burner

Oil Controls BurnerOil Controls Burner - The oil burner and oil controls provide the main source of heat for this oil furnace. The oil burner comprises an oil pump, an oil pump, a burner electric motor, a burner blower, a step-up transformer, an oil ignition control, an oil burner gun, and an oil nozzle (inside not viewable here).

The burner electric motor is directly linked to the blower and the oil pump and when the electric motor starts (controlled by the ignition control) the pump begins pumping oil while the blower provides primary air to the combustion chamber. (more…)

Troubleshooting Broken Thermostats | HVAC Control

What you will learn from the Troubleshooting Broken Thermostats article:

  1. One of the most common trouble calls for HVAC heating and cooling
  2. Basic checks of the HVAC System thermostat to see if it is broken or?
  3. The basics of the thermostat for an HVAC system
  4. Learn what a heating anticipator is and what type of thermostat uses them.
  5. Fixing a Broken Thermostat for an HVAC System
  6. Finally, lots of related useful links to help you learn your heating and cooling HVAC system

Troubleshooting Broken Thermostats - The main connection between the air conditioning and heating system and the end-user is the thermostat. Beyond the air conditioning and heating thermostat, many people know nothing about the HVAC systems that keep them comfortable year-round. While the thermostat may be the problem, make sure you eliminate other possible heating and cooling problems.

HVAC and Electrical Fundamentals | Heating, Cooling, and Electrical

HVAC and Electrical Fundamentals
HVAC and Electrical Fundamentals - Electricity is usually produced by a generator at a power station and delivered to sub-stations for distribution to homes and businesses. Electricity can also be produced using chemicals like the chemical processes produced in batteries. There is also static electricity which is generally produced from friction and is oftentimes uncontrollable like lightning. (more…)

Blank Display on Thermostat Problem – Screen Disappeared

Blank Display on Thermostat Problem
Blank Display on Thermostat Problem - Screen Disappeared - The thermostat display is our interface with our HVAC equipment. The display lets us know what the temperature is in the house. The display tells us what the desired settings are including letting us know the setpoint setting the temperature.

Some displays give us time, and the newer modern displays show us family photos like a screensaver on our computer. But what happens when the display is not there, or there is a blank thermostat display or no display on the thermostat?

Is it a bad thermostat or something else that caused the display to disappear? What do you do when the thermostat screen is not working? (more…)
