Trane Air Handler AHU with Electric Duct Heater
Trane Air Handler AHU Electric Duct Heater - This Trane air handling unit photo shows a Trane AHU with an electric duct heater above the Trane air handler in the supply duct. In places where natural gas is not available and propane LP gas is impractical or not wanted. Electric heat makes a good source of heating. This electric duct heater is situated on the supply side of the air handler. Furthermore, many duct heaters are installed inside the air handler. (more…)

Tankless Water Heater
All About Hot Water Heaters - I have been transformed into a believer in tankless water heater systems. A few years back, I moved to Ukraine for professional reasons. When I first arrived in Ukraine it took a while for me to adapt to the culture, language, services, and way they do things here. Power failures, water outages, and occasionally natural gas outages are quite frequent here although it is tolerable and a minor inconvenience. (more…)

Water Heater Types - Selecting a hot water heater can be confusing especially if you are not aware of the types of water heating systems available to you. When you go out to buy a new car you want all the information you can get about the car you are buying from how economical it is to how reliable it is to the type of engine it has under the hood. Liquid to Vapor Propane Evaporators
These evaporators serve a large complex where natural gas is unavailable. The complex needed fuel for boilers for heating and domestic hot water so these evaporators were installed too along with two very large LP tanks to handle the heating needs of the complex. As liquid propane (LP) has a specific weight of .504 (where water is 1) and propane vapor has a specific gravity of 1.5 (where the air is 1) making propane vapor 1.5 times heavier than air. (more…)

Air Conditioning and Heating HVAC Heat Energy Values - Heat is energy and when we produce heat we need to use energy in its production. There are natural methods for producing heat without burning or using fuels but these methods are not practical or available to the general populace for residential, commercial, and industrial use.
The production of heat, whether for residential, commercial, or industrial uses, uses energy, and energy costs money. It is thereby necessary to have reliable and proven methods of measuring the amount of heat produced using a specific quantity of energy. Employing these reliable and proven methods we can also use the data to determine the best methods of producing heat for homes, businesses, and industry. (more…)

Natural Gas Versus Propane | HVAC Heating Fuels - What is the best for you when choosing between either natural gas or propane? What is your heating system fuel supply? In some cases, you will not have a choice between the two. Having natural gas supplied to your home or business will require a natural gas pipeline near your home or business.
If there is a pipeline near your home and you do not have a meter, you can call the gas company. Most of the time, they will install the meter next to your home at no cost. However, it is always good to ask if they are going to charge you for installing a meter for use in your residence or business. (more…)

Standing Pilot Gas Valve Propane Heating | HVAC Heating - How It Works. The standing pilot gas furnace uses a standing pilot to light the main burners. Many gas-fired water heaters have a standing pilot ignition system. The standing pilot gas ignition system is often referred to as a safety pilot because it increases safety.
Safety of ensuring the main burners are lit. The standing pilot can be used on a natural gas ignition system or an LP ignition system. These heating ignition systems are older and are slowly being replaced by more modern and safer electronic ignition systems.

Gas Furnace AFUE Definition | HVAC Terminology. AFUE or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency Heating systems consume approximately 35% to 50% of a typical home’s energy budget. Therefore the government has come up with a way to measure efficiency ratings of furnaces so they can set a standard for minimum efficiencies.
The definition of AFUE is – Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. AFUE is a rating that reflects how efficiently a gas furnace converts fuel to energy. A gas furnace with an AFUE of 95 means that approximately 95 percent of the fuel is utilized to provide warmth to your home, while the remaining 10 percent flows up the flue and into the atmosphere.
Therefore you are actually using 95% of the fuel you are paying for and the other 5% is being wasted up the flue vent.
