Dangerous Cracked Heat Exchangers in Furnaces

You can see the rust holes up near the sheet metal plates in this heat exchanger

Dangerous Cracked Heat Exchangers in Furnaces - Everyone wants heat when old man winter arrives in the fall. Many times we take it for granted. When the temperature falls all we have to do is go to the thermostat and turn the heat on. Usually, this is not a problem. We turn the thermostat on and the heat comes on. When we first turn the furnace on we have a slight burning odor that comes from the system. (more…)

Ceiling Fan in a Garage | HVAC Airflow

Ceiling Fan in a Garage
Ceiling Fan in a Garage | HVAC Airflow –
This ceiling fan keeps the air moving in a large garage where repairs are made to heavy machinery. In addition to providing a level of comfort by keeping the air moving in the shop the ceiling fan also helps to keep noxious fumes at higher elevations and moving towards the exhaust fans so the noxious fumes from heavy equipment can be removed from the shop area. Bacharach Combustion Analyzer Furnace Testing

Bacharach Combustion Analyzer Furnace Testing

Bacharach Combustion Analyzer

Bacharach Combustion Analyzer Furnace Testing - The combustion analyzer is used to test gas and oil furnaces to make sure the combustion process is as efficient as possible. This multi-function HVAC test instrument can also be used to test spaces for carbon monoxide, test building pressure, all in addition to testing the combustion process of the furnace.

The combustion analyzer allows an HVAC technician to test the flue temperature, the amount of oxygen in the furnace flue gases, the amount of carbon monoxide in the flue gases, the amount of carbon dioxide in the flue gases, and the pressure of the flue. All these readings are necessary so the HVAC technician can make adjustments to the burner settings to ensure efficient combustion using the combustion analyzer. (more…)

HVAC Indoor Air Quality and Pollution

HVAC Indoor Air Quality and Pollution HVAC Indoor Air Quality - Indoor air quality is very important to our health. There are not many people who worry about indoor air quality unless they have asthma or another respiratory problem that can easily be aggravated by indoor pollutants or bad indoor air quality. If we examine the things in our air, we are surprised by the things in the air which can have a dramatic effect on our health. People who suffer from respiratory health problems usually see increased health when they institute a good indoor air quality program that can include installing electronic air cleaners and ultra-violet air cleaners along with a good air filtration system. IAQ Ventilation Basics | HVAC Indoor Air Quality

IAQ Ventilation Basics

Proper ventilation is necessary for good indoor air quality

IAQ Ventilation Basics - Indoor air pollution can be reduced and possibly eliminated by taking corrective action using a defined plan. The first step is called an IAQ audit and often requires the services of both an HVAC Test and Balance (TAB) Company and an industrial hygienist.

First of all, it must be determined where the source of pollution is coming from and then steps taken to eliminate it. Vapor barriers and foundation sealant can often be the source of indoor air pollution but other areas need to be studied to ensure they are not allowing pollution into the structure. (more…)
