Old Leaking Condenser Coils (also referred to as freon leaks) can cause serious issues with HVAC heat pump equipment. HVAC refrigeration circuits are designed and built to hold the refrigerant. It is a sealed hermetic system. The HVAC refrigeration circuit should never need refrigerant. An HVAC refrigeration system does not burn refrigerant. The refrigerant is used over and over again to move heat from one place to another. Efficiency Factors for Condensing Units
New HVAC Condensers Compressor Technology
For years compressors inside the condensing unit were sized to meet the highest load demand for whatever application they were serving. Even today, many compressors, located inside the condensing unit are sized in accordance with their highest load demand even though it is unlikely they will only be needed to run for full load conditions approximately 30-35% of the time. While many systems have worked just fine this way for many years they have not been very energy efficient. So even on a mild day, these compressors run full blast even though the system may only require the compressor to run at 50% capacity to satisfy the demand. That creates problems with short cycling which causes premature wear, higher maintenance costs, and reduces total compressor lifespan. (more…)
Condenser Coil Repair
A crane is used here to lift a new condenser coil to a roof top. The old condenser coil was leaking and could no longer be repaired. The process involved recovering all the refrigerant from the Trane roof top unit. The roof top unit was then partially disassembled and the old coil cut out from the system taking great care and planning to ensure the new coil could be retrofitted to the old refrigeration piping system. Basic Heat Pump Maintenance - A good heat pump maintenance plan will include a thorough check of the refrigeration system, the electrical system, the heat pump controls, and the air filter system of the heat pump. Heat pump maintenance is as important as maintenance on your vehicle. If we fail take good care of our vehicle then it is more prone to breakdowns whereas if we keep it in good condition with proper maintenance it is more reliable and repairs usually cost less when repairs are needed.
Of course if you take good care of the heat pump with regular maintenance major repairs will likely never occur and it is possible you will repair free with a good maintenance plan in place for your heat pump. Basic maintenance adds life to the equipment, keeps the equipment running longer adding to the life span, and during the overall life will keep the heat pump more efficient.
