Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners - Here is a Lennox and York comparison for their premium model air conditioner as requested by a reader of the site. Just off the top of my head, both systems are good systems. I would say Lennox had a slight advantage but the first-hand experience in the field gives most HVAC technicians the opinion that Lennox is over-engineered.
Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners
Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners - That is not my own opinion as I have heard this among other technicians that have worked on Lennox products. Additionally, finding parts for the Lennox is difficult as some Lennox parts are proprietary (as many manufacturers have proprietary parts) but can only be purchased through a Lennox dealer which makes them more expensive. Despite that reputation, Lennox does make a good air conditioner system that has quality workmanship and quality materials and parts in the air conditioners Lennox produces. York has an excellent reputation for quality products also.
York also has some air conditioner condensing units that are very aesthetic and pleasing to the eye so York units can be very stylish and pleasing. That is not to say the Lennox units are ugly as they are not. I once heard a former co-worker refer to the new style Lennox units as looking like a spaceship. As far as quality and workmanship both Lennox and York are good systems.

Differences
Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners - There are some differences in the two brands between York Affinity and Lennox XC21 air conditioner systems but the premium air conditioner models compare well aside from the Lennox system being a little higher in efficiency. Engineering and design of the systems, as well as aesthetic looks, is excellent for both models so the differences lay in the price and the quality of contractor doing the installation.
The Lennox high rating for efficiency does decline as the tonnage of the system rises. With a 21 SEER rating for a two-ton Lennox XC21 and 16.5 SEER for a 5 ton Lennox XC21. Keep that in mind especially if you need the larger size unit. Lennox also advertises that this system can be hooked up the Lennox solar electrical systems. These systems are called SunSource® which uses solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity. It is somehow tied into your for air conditioning and heating electrical system. It’s designed to trim a little off the electric bill.
Solar Sense?
Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners - According to Lennox, their solar power system is a grid-tied system. Theoretically, if your solar power system can produce enough electricity then the electric company will send you a check. It will take a lot of solar electric panels to do this feat. For some people, this is impractical as they do not have space for it. However, upon a cursory review, it does seem like a good system. A system that will save you money in the future.
You probably cannot use these in Historical districts. These units are energy efficient and anything energy efficient is banned in historical districts. Additionally, you must live in an area that has net metering. From what is understood, many people do live in net metering areas.
Conclusion
Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners - The York and the Lennox systems have some comparable features and have a reputation for quality in materials and workmanship. There are some negatives that go with both manufacturers – see above – but this goes with the territory.
As always we must always recommend to the customer that the most important part of purchasing any type of HVAC equipment is not the name on the HVAC equipment but the quality of job the contractor does when installing the HVAC equipment. We are going to qualify that statement as I see a unit from an unnamed Asian country that begins with a big C that was true junk. The installing contractor needs to install the equipment correctly. Otherwise, you will not realize the efficiency the equipment is rated at.

Lennox Versus York Air Conditioners
This author is clearly an author and no more. With absolutley poor advice given. Lennox products are NOT hard to get parts for.’
Nearly all of parts have undergone changes over the years going to conventional standards compared to years ago when that was NOT the case.
Lennox entired into the mainstream of standardized parts over 5 years ago.
As far as quality goes, Lennox is heavier, more quality constructed and over all is a far superior system. As a contractor, I have listened to my customers who had lennox products…they are loyal to the quality of the product and when it comes to replacment, if they had lennox,,they want lennox back in.
This is the only product I found this to be true.
Consequently, I have installed Lennox in my home, my parents home and for all my friends and family.
It has become the only product I can trust to keep warranty issues to …..well….NO ISSUES!!!
Whatever Mr Lennox. I worked for a Lennox dealer for over 7 years as a technician and will agree on quality for certain things. How many overpriced Heatcraft boards have you replaced over the years? I could go on with more but this is not a pissing match forum. It’s simply an opinion to give insight to someone interested in purchasing either type of system.
