Daikin Package Unit Reviews | Consumer Ratings. Daikin offers package units in the 2 to the 5-ton capacity range. They do have a few models that only go up to 4 tons so check with the dealer to see what is available. Of course, that depends on what you need and the capacity you need. Daikin package unit models offer air conditioners, heat pumps, gas packs, and a dual fuel package unit. Package units are ideal for installation where indoor space is undesirable or not existent for an air handler. Package units are an all-in-one package with everything you need all in one package.
Daikin Package Unit Reviews | Consumer Ratings
Daikin package units are typically installed on the ground or on a rooftop and ductwork is run to the unit for heating and cooling. This makes them ideal for specific applications for residential and light commercial installations where indoor space is a premium or not ideal for air handler installation for a split system. Various features of select Daikin package units include:
- Select Daikin package units are EnergyStar rated
- Heavy-Gauge Galvanized Steel Cabinet for durability
- Fully insulated blower compartment - this is a common feature among all manufacturers
- Variable-speed ECM indoor blower motor for select Daikin package units
- Totally enclosed, permanently lubricated condenser fan motor which is another common feature among other manufacturers
- 5 kW to 20 kW electric heat kit available for heat pump package units
- high- and low-pressure refrigeration switches for unit protection
- Copper tube/aluminum fin condenser coils with an all-aluminum evaporator coil
- The direct-spark ignition system for gas packs
- Lifetime Heat Exchanger Warranty for gas packs (good for as long as you own your home), 6-year unit replacement limited warranty, and 12-year Parts Limited Warranty

Always remember to register the warranty within the deadline period after installation. Consequently, without proper registration, the manufacturer may not honor any warranty. If you purchase the high-tier models I recommend you purchase an extended part and labor warranty if available. Additionally, I always recommended choosing the better contractor over the brand. In our buyer’s guide, we recommend getting at least 3 quotes before signing a contract.
Daikin Package Unit Reviews | Consumer Ratings - About
Daikin began in 1924 manufacturing radiator tubes for aircraft. In 1938 they branched out and got into refrigeration providing refrigeration units for the Japanese Navy. In the 50’s Daikin introduced their first air conditioners. As they grew so did Daikin’s innovation for various comfort and industrial cooling systems. In 2012, Daikin purchased Goodman Manufacturing out of Houston, Texas.

Very disappointed in our Daikin RTU (Model DPS025A). I should also note that we had all these issues despite consistent quarterly preventive maintenance provided by Daikin certified HVAC companies. Since the facility went operational, approximately 5.5 years ago, we have suffered numerous failures to either the heating or the cooling capability.
In the first two years the unit would ‘reliably’ fail – quit heating – any time the temperature went below 10 degrees Fahrenheit; this occurred approximately four different times over those two winters while using Daikin certified companies to maintain the system. That is important because each company claimed to have reached back to Daikin to determine a fix action – reportedly no suggestions were offered. After the fourth failure, I asked the service technician to specifically explain the fault (reportedly condensation would collect in a pressure switch hose tube, then freeze, and then the safing features would shut the unit down) – also significant to note is that I resolved that issue (one of many issues) by installing thermostat controlled heat tape around the line. I find it very disappointing that, after multiple failures and multiple reach back attempts to Daikin, I had to solve the problem and that the solution was rather simple to an obvious design and or manufacturing defect.
An inverter compressor (VFD?) failed before the four year point; thankfully the part was covered by warranty, but not the $5,000+ installation labor – once again, what a disappointment!
And now the Exhaust Vent Inducer Motor has failed. Once again safing features have shut the unit down, and it was 18 degrees Fahrenheit that morning. Definitely not and ideal situation. Another $4,000 estimate on repairs plus $400 for expedited shipping and that is just to get the part 10 days from now, who knows when it will get here) at least 10 more days without heat in the Sanctuary, with forecast night time temperatures down to 11 degrees Fahrenheit. Once again, what a disappointment.
There are times I wish I had pursued some type of ‘lemon law’ after the first winter of failures but it’s too late for that now; however, we do wonder what if anything Daikin might do to improve the reliability and availability of this unit.
Final comment: we have more issues with the Daikin in one year than we have had with the four Lennox units supporting the rest of the facility over 5.5 years.
I am licensed Mechanical Contractor in Michigan. I installed a 5 ton Daikin rooftop M#DSG0601403BXXXAA in Nov of 17. Complaint of noise was first reported April of 18. First Service call was replacing both bearings. Second service call was replacing shaft and blower wheel. Third service call was replacing Blower housing and mounting brackets for bearings. Fourth service call was replacing adjustable pulley on motor. Could not get rid of shake.
Fifth service call was phone call to factory rep. The service rep from Daikin was a smart alek which upset me. He showed no respect at all for my 38 years experience and state of Michigan license. I have worked on hundreds of rooftops. I was Maintenance Manager of all Applebee’s in Michigan. In charge of 23 restaurants. I know what I am doing.
The service rep belittled me. “In your 38 years you should know what you are doing”.
I ended hanging up on factory rep. He immediately called the Wholesaler where I purchased. He authorized new motor and then I am on my own.
If motor does not stop shaking of this unit (all BLOWER PARTS REPLACED), I am going to replace it with a Luxaire rooftop, at my own expense, and let the judge figure this out.
I used this rooftop because I had great success with Goodman rooftops in the past. Daikin bought Goodman. It is not the quality product. Metal gauges are to light. This 1 HP 3 phase motor is has to much torque for this light gauge metal housing. This housing and blower wheel are the same in residential furnaces which uses a 1/2 HP motor.
My mistake was telling the factor rep my “humble opinion” that is was to much motor for the light gauge metal. His response was that out of their hundred of thousands of units I was the only one with this problem..
Upon speaking with other service men and contractors in this area I am not the only with these problems. The rep LIED>
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. UNIT WILL NOT LAST 10 YEARS.
My Daikin has been nothing but a problem!
