We have now had two RUUD package units installed in our house. One is a 5 ton, and the other is a 3 ton. We’ve had nothing but trouble with 5 ton, now after three days after installing the 3 ton, the heat portion has crapped out, and they are having trouble finding a replacement part to fix ix it. I would highly recommend staying away from this product. I guess that we are just stuck all these problems in the near future, after spending about $16,000, you would think that we would getter a better product,
My RUUD air conditioning unit that is for our upstairs has gone out after only using for three years. I called them and they offered no assistance whatsoever except for the parts which are under warranty. The labor alone will cost us $1300-$1500. I will NEVER recommend this brand to anyone. They should be ashamed of the poor quality of their units.
I bought a RUUD 4 ton, 16 SEER Achiever Package Unit, & had it installed on July 1st 2017.
It is the WORST PIECE OF CRAP ever! Had to Replace the Condensating fan motor 3x in under 3 years. The Evaporator Blower motor in 3.5 years, Several Capacitors have been replaced. Now at 4 yrs 10 months the Condenser Coil has a leak.
It has NEVER run for a Solid 12 months! Always something is breaking down! The Thermostat doesn’t communicate with their Eco Net system, in their Main Board. It will shut off on COOL mode 3⁰F before reaching set Temperature. I have swapped out 3 Thermostats, and it keeps doing the same thing!
Also, No Heat at ALL, in the winter months. Just the AC mode whenever it’s not Broken! I hope a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT is brought against RUUD, for fraud, & Ripping consumers off, & cheating folks!
Oh yeah, They Won’t honor their Warranty for parts either!
Buyer BEWARE!
I agree. We’ve now had two units installed in our house, and both of them are continuously breaking down.
I got a Ruud 4Ton, 14 SEER Achiever, Package Unit installed, in my home, on July 1,2017. BUYER BEWARE!!! It’s been through 3 Thermostats,in a year! In mid summer while in A/C mode it reverses itself and and starts blowing hot air, at 3 am constantly waking me up, in sweat! I have NEVER programmed my thermostat to do this, it just tried to learn my schedule, & repeat itself, and does it! Replaced the Theromstat, it stopped heating, on it’s own! Last summer,in July 2018, at only 1 yr old, the condenser fan motor goes out!!!! No A/C for 3 days! Exactly a year after I purchased it, & had it installed! This winter, it will not even go into HEAT mode! My whole house ???? is cold!!! I am using 2 electric portable space heaters in my Master Bedroom, & bathroom ???? area! The Best thing I can say, is it’s decent on my electric bill in the summer! But, I REALLY DO MISS MY OLD 2005, CARRIER COMFORT Series! It had a 2-Stage Compressor, & would come on, & do it’s cooling, or heating task very quickly, then shut itself off, & come back on in energy saving mode to maintain that temp! It was super quiet, & kept my utility bill very low! I should have just replaced the 11 year old compressor, on my old CARRIER, and would have been $2,600.00 richer, compared to paying $3,800.00 for this Piece of Crap ????RUUD! They should have named it TURD, instead of RUUD!
I purchased 2 Ruud units in Dec. 2008. Today both units have about played out. It is July 2018. The units have been noisy and I believe with a 10 year limited warranty should have lasted a bit longer. The air conditioner repair man said that Rudd keeps him in business along with Reem with the amount of service calls he has. To be fair, I do live in a coastal area, but then my first unit, (a Trane) lasted 19 years. Manufacturers could make a unit to hold up better.
My upstairs unit which isn’t used nearly as much as our downstairs unit has gone out after using for only three summers. Very disappointing. I called RUUD and they offered no assistance whatsoever.
My recommendation is DO NOT PURCHASE ONE OF THEIR UNITS!

I am looking at buying the Ruud 3-ton 16.30 SEER High EFF 100,000 BTU 80% EFF 2 stage heat and 2 stage A/C Gas Pack. I would like to know if this unit has had any issues now or in the past.
Editors Note:
In my opinion I have had good luck with Ruud Equipment and seen many that run for years with no issues. The important part is that you choose the right contractor for the installation because if it is not installed properly you will have problems with the equipment that will result in constant repairs and shorten the life of the equipment. Here is something that will help you find a good HVAC contractor.
