HydroHeat Geothermal Heat Pump Reviews. Hydro-Heat geothermal heat pumps, formerly Hydro-Delta Geothermal heat pumps, have a slew of offerings for many different configurations needed to serve both the residential and the commercial markets for geothermal heat pump systems.
They have a product that can be dedicated to forced air and switched over to produce hot water for a hydronic system such as radiant floor heating or other uses where hot water can be used for heat including producing domestic hot water for showering and other home uses.
HydroHeat varies in capacities from 1/2 to 6 tons for various selected geothermal products including residential and commercial systems with the commercial systems available in commercial voltages and phases. Various features of select HydroHeat geothermal heat pump systems include:
HydroHeat Geothermal Heat Pump Reviews - Features
- Desuperheater options available when ordering HydroHeat geothermal heat pump systems
- Water to water models available in select HydroHeat geothermal heat pump systems
- Select HydroHeat geothermal heat pumps available with variable-speed blowers
- Select HydroHeat geothermal heat pumps offer advanced diagnostic control boards for easier heat pump troubleshooting
- HydroHeat offers several accessories such as thermostats, filters, and diagnostic tools
HydroHeat Geothermal Heat Pump Reviews - Product Line
Models of HydroHeat geothermal heat pump systems come in a variety of configurations and sizes for both residential and commercial applications. The product line up for HydroHeat geothermal heat pump systems include:
- Packaged Geothermal Heat Pump Systems with the components in all one cabinet available in both horizontal flow configurations and vertical flow configurations.
- Split System Geothermal Heat Pump Systems. These systems include a separate condenser from the air handler where the evaporator coil and the blower are located. Split systems are generally suited when the condenser is installed in a garage or other remote location with the systems being connected with a refrigeration line set and some wiring.
- Hydronic systems for hot water heating applications like spa heating, radiant heating, and other hot water heating applications including domestic hot water use.

GeoSystems Mega-Tek Poor Quality and Service
We had a new Mega-Tek heat pump installed in pump & dump configuration in 2010. The unit arrived 4.8 lbs. short of R-410A and had to be charged on site by the installer. (Poor quality control) They say all units are tested at factory and meet factory specifications before shipping? I requested and received from the installer the “Banana” tool and was trained on its use (Key pad) by my installer, I like to check water temps (ewt/lwt) along with compressor run times stage 1 and stage 2. I discovered the unit would record run times for awhile and then magically reset them. It clearly states in the Banana operating manual page 12 “compressor run hours cannot be reset” so I contacted the installer who contact hydroheat and waited for a response. I then wrote to a letter to the President/CEO of GeoSystems Larry Olsen explaining that my unit is resetting compressor run hours, and does not comply with their factory specifications. His response was “the run hours log has no effect on the operation of the heat pump, it is not covered under warranty. Please consider this letter our final decision on this issue.” GeoSystems probably has an issue with every Mega-Tek system in the field, who’s to know without looking at compressor run hours, and a banana service tool is needed. GeoSystems has terrible customer service, the unit does comply with quoted factory specifications and company refuses to make it right and do the warranty repair. I would not buy this unit, customer service and quality is important and GeoSystems HydroHeat units have neither. I contacted the MN better BBB and the Attorney Generals office to no avail, they still continue to refuse to fix their problem. Do not do business with this company.

Don’t by HydroHeat / HydroDelta
I have two units – a HydroDelta and a MegaTek. Both get full service from my dealer at the start of the hearting and cooling seasons. Invariably at least one will fail every season, without warning, and usually at an inopportune time. These are extremely unreliable units with frequent refrigerant leaks, lockouts and failures. I have replaced the compressors twice in each unit, and now one of the control boards has failed. My biggest gripe with these systems is how poorly designed they are. The control system was outsourced, so the mfr provides negligible support. It’s constantly monitoring itself, and will shut the system down when any measurement upsets it. But there’s no way to know this fault occurred except by waking up to a frigid house or cold shower as they hide the status LEDs behind two “do not remove” panels. The system has a serial “banana” port that one could presumably monitor with a PC or home automation system and get advance notice of issues (and even graphs showing approaching problems) but the mfr doesn’t know the serial protocol or provide an API to make this possible.
Buy something else. I truly wish I had.

I have a Hydroheat water to air reversing geothermal heat pump system that has a bad high limit. The HPS2 has gone bad and i was wondering if there was a way to jump this out until i can find one. This is I believe the high limit going to the water heating side of the unit.

Over the last 15 years I have owned two HydroHeat Geothermal units. Both have been nothing but problems. Do not buy anything from this company. The most recent unit is only four years old but has not been working for 45 days. Today the contractor came to me and recommended that I replace the unit with a WaterFurnace unit. Over the years I have replaced 4 – compressors, 3 – fan motors, 3 – contactor switches, 3 – TXV Switches. I would never buy anything from this company. Buyer beware!
