Gas Furnace Components 2 - Gas Burners - Depending on the type of gas furnace and how the gas furnace was engineered will depend on the type of gas burners. Inshot burners generally shoot a flame into the combustion chamber where an induced draft exists. For sealed combustion chambers a forced or induced draft will exist.
There are burners with precisely drilled holes in them. Then there are slotted gas burners that extend into the combustion chamber and generally have induced draft combustion chambers. However, these can also have forced draft combustion chambers if the combustion chamber is sealed. Natural Gas Burners and Burner Tubes - These natural gas burners control the gas as it enters the gas burner tubes. The gas burner tubes have little holes which control the amount of gas that exits the top of the gas burner tubes. The black pipe running out of the gas valve is the manifold.
Where the gas burner tubes are connected to the manifold are little precisely drilled holes inside of brass inserts. The precisely drilled holes are engineered specifically for natural gas. The size of the holes plus the pressure in the manifold determines how much natural gas enters the gas burner tubes.

Gas Furnace Maintenance Agreements - In the commercial environment maintenance is a never-ending cycle from winter to summer. In contrast, in the residential environment sometimes maintenance is neglected. Neglected until there is a problem with either the heating or cooling system.

Gas Furnace Facts - Gas Furnaces are the most used types of the heating appliance for our homes and businesses and modern gas furnaces range in efficiency ratings from 79% to 98%. Gas furnaces can either use propane or natural gas for fuel. That largely depends on whether natural gas is available at the location of the appliance.
Propane is used in rural areas and in urban areas where the natural gas pipeline infrastructure is not available. Natural gas is delivered via pipeline, while propane is delivered via trucks and pumped into tanks. Tanks locations are on the premises near the gas furnace. How Gas Furnace Thermocouples Work | Boilers and Furnaces. Furnaces, water heaters, and boilers, especially older gas systems use the standing pilot gas system as an integral part of the furnace’s operation. These systems are best recognized as having a standing flame burning continuously.
It is a basic and time-tested system that provides a reliable way of proving a flame. It employs a thermocouple (some systems can use a thermophile which is a lot of thermocouples embedded in one piece) and a gas valve that has two separate valves inside of it.

Gas Furnace Components | HVAC Heating Systems. Different types of gas furnaces are available for purchase today and the older models which were installed many years ago still in operation. The older models were typically atmospheric-type gas furnaces and used a lot of gas to produce heat, much of which went up the flue because efficiencies were low.

This picture shows furnace flue condensation problems. This problem is caused by hot gases cooling too quickly in the flue. As the hot gasses cool, the moisture in the gases condenses and starts dripping back down the flue. Typically, there is a combustion issue or bad flue design. (more…)

Gas Fired Pool Heater
Gas Furnace Types come in a variety of sizes and can be used for different applications. Types of gas furnaces have different classifications. By and large, the most common gas furnaces use natural gas and utilize electronic ignition. Electronic ignition gas furnaces are slowly replacing the older style standing pilot furnaces where a pilot light remained lit all the time.
Now, with the newer modern electronic ignition, gas furnaces only use gas when there is an actual call for heat. That adds efficiency because, with the older standing pilot gas furnace, the pilot remained on even in the summer months. The heat produced by a standing pilot light is negligible. However, it is still added heat to the system in the summer.
The whole purpose of the AC in the summer is to remove the heat from the system. Rather than add heat like a standing pilot would do.
