Some people refer to them as furnaces, hot water heaters, hot water heating systems, or hot water heaters but the proper name is to call them hot water boilers. Hot water gas boilers provide clean draftless hot water heat through pipes and piping systems which HVAC professionals refer to as hydronic piping. Typically, hot water heating systems use pumps or circulators to move the water through the hot water piping system. Furthermore, “hot water heat” is considered to be a good source of draftless heat by the people who have these hot water heating systems installed in their homes and businesses.

Boiler piping must be engineered for the correct pipe size to handle the load. The boilers must be of sufficient horsepower to handle the load for heating and domestic uses. It is important that the boiler plant has the appropriate capacity. Otherwise, the boiler plant will not be able to keep up with demand and people will get cold. This particular boiler plant has three boilers and several pumps. Under low load conditions, a single boiler will run. Furthermore, when conditions get colder and colder a second boiler will come online to assist the lead boiler.

If conditions persist to get cooler then the third boiler will come online to aid the first and second boiler. Of course, the piping must be able to handle the load also. As each boiler comes online so will another hot water pump. The hot water loop must be able to handle the load the boilers provide it. The proper design of hot water piping will include air management to allow air to be purged from the pipe.

That is if and when it is introduced into the hydronic piping loop. Additionally, considerations for the proper pump and pipe sizing, and expansion tank or tanks, and efficient control of the boilers. This is all done for the hot water piping loop and boiler system as a whole.
