Ducane Condensing Units Reviews - Consumer Advisory About R-22
In the early nineties, several nations signed the Montreal Protocol which essentially bans and phases out certain refrigerants. R-22 is on the list to be phased out completely by 2020 and manufacturers of refrigerants have already begun reducing or eliminating the production of R-22 which makes it short in the supply chain. Economics 101 says that low supply with high demand will equal high prices for R-22. If you are replacing you condensing unit it is highly recommended to get the newer R-410A units rather than the units that use R-22. This means you will have to replace the indoor coil also but in the long run, you will save money especially if your unit springs a leak.
