The Crown Phantom® Series boiler is stainless steel, water tube, high-efficiency, condensing, gas-fired, hot water boiler. This is the top-of-the-line Crown boiler for the best efficiency. It can be wall-mounted and because it is a condensing boiler you have more options for venting the combustion gases. It is also a modulating boiler meaning you get added efficiency because the boiler runs a firing rate based on demand. The less the demand the lower the firing rate.

boiler is not good, only last me two years,i had to buy another one
Crow boiler is a piece of junk do not buy it will break down few month . And continue to break down flame sensor on on on
Well sounds to me as if this boilers are lemons. I searching for a new furnace ,Homestead a that installs them recommended. But I see way too many complaints. Sticking with my BURNHAM FURNACE .
Two weeks ago I had a new Crown combi boiler installed. it worked for two days. After that I couldn’t get any hot water unless the heater part of the unit was running. Had the service man out twice. Still no hot water unless I turn the house thermostat up. HE has no clue what is wrong. He contacted Crown but they were of no help. Does anyone know someone that knowes these boilers that I can call? I would not recommend this manufacturer to anyone.
I purchased a velocity phantom combi boiler in December of 2021. It was installed correctly by a local top notch heating contractor. It worked perfectly for a week. After that it shuts down randomly about every 3 to 4 days.It keeps shutting down on a soft lock out # 3. The contractor noticed a water leak inside the unit at the pipe that is attached to the top flange on the circ pump. He suggested that I call Velocity Boiler and request someone to come out and check it out considering that it was new and still under warranty. They said they do not send anyone out and to order the repair part thru the dealer I purchased it from at no cost. So I have to pay my contractor to install a part that malfunctioned under the warranty period. I encorage anyone reading this to think twice about purchasing a Velocity Boiler
Just replaced an 8 year old Crown boiler. Worked well for 6 years then tons of issues. Heat exchangers ( old style no longer made) is impossible to maintain/clean. Complete disassembly required full day 1200 bucks.
Most recent issue was boiler would not ramp up to high capacity. Crown Rep couldn’t figure it out and Corp Technical Guy was more interested in absolution of the problem than finding the cause.
House plumbing was being blamed, and the Corp Tech Rep couldn’t comprehend the plumbing had never been changed and boiler was fine for 6 years.
Replaced with diff mfg, no sense giving business to Company not “really interested” in finding the root cause.
I purchased a Crown Boiler just over 2 years ago for my home. The blower motor went out this weekend and we had no heat or hot water. Velocity refused to consider it under warranty and I’ll have to buy a $550 part for my new boiler after spending several thousand dollars on a boiler and water heater from them. The company that sold it to us tried to persuade them to replace it and they still refused. I will never recommend a Crown/Velocity boiler to anyone!

What is your opinion of the Crown AWR105 cast iron gas boiler model? I am interested mainly if it has a good repair record, but also if it is quiet and effective. Thank you.

As with many boilers the noise levels will depend on factors such as proper installation and the type of fuel used. Oil boilers typically have higher noise levels than gas fired boilers. And as far as it being effective? Is it effective at providing good heat? Well that depends on whether it was sized properly for the load and the installation. Does it have the proper pump for the load to give the water circulation the correct velocity going through the piping. Too much velocity is bad just as not enough velocity or flow is bad. Crown makes good boilers and as with any HVAC equipment it is important to find a good contractor to install the boiler for you as proper installation will determine the longevity and efficiency of the boiler no matter the name brand. Crown is manufactured by the same company that makes Burnham Boilers and I have seen many in the field that run for a good long time with no problems – old boilers that are over 20 to 30 years range and longer. Again, what determines longevity and efficiency is proper installation and that takes a good company dedicated to doing it right. With any company that makes any product you will find a dud or lemon from time to time but I have not seen too many Crowns that were duds or lemons and when I did most of the time it was a result of improper installation or no regular maintenance.
How do you suggest one finds a competent contractor who knows how to select the best model and install it?
