Tempstar Heat Pump Reviews – Consumer Ratings | Additional Information

High Performance HVAC always recommends to consumers purchasing new HVAC equipment make sure you choose a good HVAC contractor for the installation of the new system. Installation is very important and poor installation can lead to premature failure and poor performance of the new system.

Tempstar offers a 10 year “No Hassle” replacement limited warranty that guarantees if the coil or the compressor fails in the first ten years Tempstar will replace the heat pump unit. When you see limited warranty make sure you read the fine print because many times you will get the replacement for free but you will have to pay for labor to install the new heat pump condenser. Nearly all limited warranties do not include the cost of labor. Always check to see if an extended parts and labor warranty is available from the manufacturer especially when purchasing the top of the line models.

For more on the Tempstar warranty and for the latest models and efficiency ratings see the Tempstar website.

There is not much history about Tempstar except the fact they are owned by United Technologies.

I replaced a heat pump in 2010 that has been in my house for 21 years with no service repairs as it was just getting noisy. I took the advice of a local dealer and purchased a temp star. That was the LARGEST mistake I ever made. It is now not working again. The compressor has gone out for the second time. Once in 2012 and now in 2015 at the cost of $1100. Each time. STAY AWAY FROM TEMPSTAR!!!!!!!! I talk to them and was told there was nothing they could do for me.

    Many repairs

Not much good I can say about this brand or Heat Pump. Any energy savings has been far surpassed by repairs. Same with the AC. Stay away from this brand.

overall good equipment for the money!!!

I guess it is the installing contractor verses the actual equipment sometimes!! But the overall performance of the Tempstar mid grade and up is outstanding the no hassle warr. is the best yet!! SO IF YOU PASS MY HOUSE!! You passed one happy customer!! Thanks !!

    • I think, in some cases, the equipment is not the problem. All equipment has failures from time to time but if the installation was done properly and regular maintenance is performed you are less likely to have problems with the equipment than if it was installed improperly (and many systems are because people typically go for the lowest bid and not always the most competent installer) or if the system is neglected by not having regular maintenance. Always check out the contractor to make sure they are competent in what they have done in the past. Proper installation is key to having a good, properly functioning and efficient system installed and working for years with little or no problems.
