Gas Furnace Components 3 | HVAC Heating

Gas Furnace Components 3Gas Furnace Components 3 - Gas furnace ignition controls vary from furnace manufacturer to furnace manufacturer. Some are proprietary and some are from an engineering company that specializes in gas furnace ignition controls. Honeywell being a major manufacturer of controls for HVAC also makes several gas furnace ignition controls.

Gas furnace ignition controls have advanced by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years. The standard was standing pilot ignition. Solid-state ignition controls are safer and more efficient than ignition controls of yesteryear.

How Inverters Work Basics | Air Conditioning

How Inverters Work Basics - The new way for ultra-efficient air conditioners and heat pumps have modulating compressors and motors. A few years ago it was rare that I got an email asking the question about how inverters work but now I have noticed the question coming more and more so I wanted to write an article to explain how inverters work.

Inverters are used in air conditioning to modulate compressors and fan motors from 100% down to a minimum of 20% although the minimum will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer according to part selection and engineering limitations. To truly understand how inverters work one has to have a basic understanding of electronics. (more…)

Electronic Ignition Gas Furnace Problems Troubleshooting - Gas furnaces are a prevalent form of heat for homes and businesses, and occasionally a gas furnace needs to be repaired because of a problem with the gas furnace.

Since there are many different types of gas furnaces, it is difficult to cover every single possible gas furnace problem that can occur with a gas furnace in one article. We are going to break this theme “gas furnace problems” down into a series of articles with the first one being gas furnace problems with electronic ignition gas furnaces.

How To Light a Pilot Light – HVAC Heating

Steps to Light a Pilot Light

  1. Determine That You Actually Have a Standing Pilot Gas System
  2. Check to Make Sure You Have Fuel
  3. Understand the Valve Function
  4. Light the Pilot Light
  5. Enjoy the Warmth

How To Light a Pilot Light

How To Light a Pilot Light – Standing pilot gas furnaces and water heaters are still around today even in newer homes. All the major hardware stores and HVAC dealers carry standing pilot appliances. Although a new standing pilot gas furnace or boiler is rare finds these days. Because of the move to higher efficiency models and the wide use of electronic ignition technology which improves efficiency.

Before you proceed you’ll want to determine if you actually have a standing pilot system in your HVAC furnace, boiler, or water heater.

In many cases, on many appliances, there are basic instructions on lighting it, in fact, you do have a standing pilot system. Check around the main panel or look at the gas valve itself. Sometimes, especially on older appliances, there are no instructions on it if the pilot light goes out on a standing pilot gas furnace, boiler, or water heater.

The label or sticker on the furnace, boiler, or water heater faded a long time ago and you will need to follow the instructions in this article. (more…)
