These HVAC electrical disconnect(s) were hasitly installed and are falling off the wall. It is important to securely fasten electrical disconnect boxes to prevent electrical hazards like shock or fire. These electrical disconnects are responsible for the power disconnect for the condensing unit. Some of these condenser power disconnects are fused for condenser fuse protection. These boxes are weather proof if installed properly which means in the upright position. If the condenser electrical disconnect is installed improperly, such as the boxes pictured, there is a possiblity that water could get into the condenser electrical disconnect box and cause a dead short which will cause the fuses to blow or the circuit breaker for the condenser electrical circuit to trip.
It is very important that electrical work be done by competent, trained people. A professional electrician or HVAC Technician would have made sure, as a matter of professional pride, that these electrical disconnects were installed properly and securely. Another technical issue that the professional would have made sure was done properly is the wire size for the unit was the proper size and the breakers and fuses were matched to the ampacity load for the condenser. Everything would have been done according to the appropiate codes including the national Electric Code and the Mechanical Code. Seeing something like this would leave a lot of doubt that any of the work was done to code and therefore there will be doubt that the job was done safely.
