This Magic-aire air handler serves part of a large club and uses a DX coil for cooling and a hot water coil in air handler for heating. Many commercial air handlers are set up in this manner for heating and air conditioning. Hot water for the hot water coil is supplied from an oil boiler which supplies hot water to other air handling units in this building. In the center of the photo is the hot water coil and to the left the line set which feeds the DX coil can be seen. If this sytem had a good control system it could be used for dehumifying if dehumidification was necessary for this building. The air conditioning would run at the same time as water was being pumped through the hot water coil. The air conditioning DX coil would dehumidify or draw the moisture out of the air while the hot water coil would reheat the air. This way of dehumidification only applies when the space is very humid and for comfort reasons should only be done in the winter when heat is needed. Magic-aire air handlers come in a variety of configurations.
