You need to call an HVAC Tech to have a look at it. Something is wrong and needs to be repaired before any major damage occurs.

Something is still not working correctly. I turn the heat pump on, the line gets hot, the indoor unit is on, the outside unit shuts off, the indoor unit stays on and will not shut off because not enough heat is in the house. The outside unit will only stay on for about a minute. When I go to Heat from EMER heat the house will not stay warm.

Yes, it is common for the heat pump pipe (the larger one) to get hot when in the heating mode but not the cooling mode. Nothing abnormal from you described including the sequence of operation.

OK, I noticed the filter was in backwards and was bowing up when the unit was on. I took it out to see how it reacted and the outdoor unit still comes on for a few minutes, the line gets EXTREMELY hot, then the outdoor unit kicks off. The inside runs for a few more minutes a then shuts off. Now, I dont know if this is normal or not since both the indoor and outdoor units or kicking off, but that line is getting extremely hot. Is this normal??

Hello,

Im a new homeowner, and Im trying to save a little money if I can. My house is a 2002 and I bought it 6 months ago. It was a HUD house and was empty for about 2 years. When I bought it in the summer, the start cap went out and I changed it. Now that it is winter, the heat pump is having issues. The outside unit is an Amana RHE 48A2D and the inside unit is a BBA60A2A. The problem I am having is when I turn the heat pump on it works for about 4 minutes and then the outside unit turns off (the comprssor and the fan), the indoor unit stay running. Before the outside unit kicks off, the large line going in the house gets extremely hot. I can barely touch it for a second before its too hot. The EMER heat works great.

My experience level with HVAC is a novice. Since I am a new homeowner, I would like to learn a little about how to fix things around the house instead of calling someone out for a couple of bills everytime something wrong happens. I am an Aircraft Mechanic and have electrical experience with those type of systems but never HVAC, although Aircraft use A/C power. Does anyone have any suggestions as to things I can try to fix this myself before calling someone out. Thanks for any help.

Paul

I have a gas furnace that works as it should for a few minutes and then the fire goes out. It'll light up and the blower will kick in for about 4 or 5 minutes and then the flame goes out. The blower still runs and the pilot light is still burning but no burners. I really have no experience in this area and am just trying to fix it myself. I would soooo appreciate any insight. Thanks

I had an old dial thermostat that needed to be replaced. Bought a Honeywell T8775A 1009 (digital version of the old thermostat). The digital screen goes blank often. When I turn the dial or push the light button most times nothing happens. It will eventually come back on by itself. I only control the actual temperature in my apartment. Whether heat comes up or not is determined by preset outside temperatures determined by the management company of my building. My questions are: Did I purchase the proper thermostat? (I have hydronic...hot water baseboard heating). Did I wire the thermostat correctly? (I used the only two wires I had and put red to red and white to white). and lastly, Are my Dip switches set properly? (1 Off, 2 On and 3 Off). I was told by my plumber I had to purchase a 24V thermostat only.

On your psychr chart, take your 72/65 space condition and trace a straight line to the left till you reach saturation (where WB = DB)...and that is your dew point.
