Rheem offers hot water heaters that are gas fired, electric, tankless hot water heaters, indirect water heaters, and solar water heaters in various capacities for residential and commercial hot water heating application. Some of Rheems hot water heaters qualify for tax incentive programs for energy efficient water heaters. Various features of selected Rheem hot water heaters are:

Rheem Manufacturing Company was established in 1920's by Richard and Donald Rheem when the two brothers bought a galvanizing plant in San Francisco, CA. In the 40's and 50's Rheem expanded it's core product line of water heaters to include air conditioning and heating equipment. Rheem has expanded and is now a global company with offices in Europe, Australia, Canada, Asia, and South America.

I have a now six-year old (of estimated 13 year lifetime) tank water heater built by Rheem under GE. While the unit is reasonably efficient when it is on, the parts fail easily (and have failed repeatedly in this unit's lifetime) for no real apparent reason.

After six years, the burner assembly is more than half rusted away; it is on its third? thermostat and several thermocouples.

They are fast with parts, however, they pay for next-day freight and ship the part the day after tomorrow; repeatedly taking three or more days for the part to get to me despite calling them mid-day their local time. The parts come with no labour or instructions - less than you would get at the local hardware store.

The durability of these units is dubious at best. I'm not sure how it pays to buy something so poorly constructed when even the roof lasts at least twenty years.
